The Japanese food here is adequate from a Canberra perspective, but it is not very authentic. None of the staff are Japanese, no one knew anything about the sakes on the menu or their associated flavours, a waitress spilt soy sauce all over my grey jumper (which was an accident, but they did not offer any compensation or even anything... I've been to Iori many times over the years and have always been impressed with the food, service and atmosphere. But last night was not the same. Standards seem to have slipped a little. The food was generally very good but lacked the 'wow' factor of all other visits. The restaurant is in need of renovation and the cleanliness needs... More

Tried it due to high TripAdvisor rating. Very poor value for money. Food presentation is good, ingredients fresh enough but....siracha sauce with sushi? Unnecessary condiments that don't add to the flavour. Chef technique is poor, the rice on the sushi was falling apart just by picking it up. In Japan chefs have to actually train to get the rice part... More

I've lived in Canberra since 1989 and watched the dining culture of the city develop and bloom. Of course, the restaurant industry is ruthless and grinding, and I've seen countless restaurants start thrive then change hands and lose their mojo, or just close up. Then there are the stayers. Iori is one of those. And the reason it's a stayer... More

Been there a few time and the food quality is always of high standard. Staff are friendly and polite. Kids love and enjoy the food.

It was our fifth night in Canberra, so we all felt like Japanese for dinner after eating out for several days. We turned up on a Monday night with eight of us and were able to get a table. We ordered the sushi and sashimi platter for four and a few extra rolls and a couple of other dishes like... More

Delicious lunch that reminded me so much of meals I have had in Tokyo many years ago. Variety and quality is just right and presentation delightful. Decor and seating is modest but comfortable, and again makes you feel you could be in Japan. Service was friendly and efficient. Only thing to be aware of, if lunching, is that kitchen closes... This was a favourite during our uni days, so a recent visit to Canberra meant a meal at Iori. The vibe here feels different since our last visit a few years ago... portions seemed smaller, service was nothing to write home about, and the price has markedly gone up. That said, you'd be at a loss to find Japanese food... More

Cooked by real Japanese chefs with only an exception of waitresses dressed in kimonos which were Caucasian and mixed race speaking Japanese. And the other thing is that make sure you get a booking before coming to this place as its a squished for room. If you want authentic real Japanese food, come here. Its also next to the bus... More

This may be a small and intimate restaurant but it packs a wallop for the food it serves Chef Mamoru clearly understands the balance of taste in his dishes
