We had high expectations of Red Lantern given its celebrity chef background. Unfortunately it failed to deliver anything more that good food and service. Surroundings are simple and acceptable but no real wow factor. Service was delivered adequately and food and wine was good but...More

We had a banquet for 5 and although some dishes were delicious the cost for the meal didn’t equate with good value. I would recommend to go to a cheaper Vietnamese restaurant

Our first night in Sydney was as this charming local restaurant. Prices were on the high side but the service was great - well educated sommelier, attentive waiter and the food was delicious!

Red Lantern failed to impress me, unfortunately. We had a weekend in Sydney and of all of the places we could have tried, I wanted to try Luke Nguyen's Red Lantern. It was our wedding anniversary so they did bring us a complimentary champagne each...More

If this restaurant was at the average price point I would still give it an average score . There was nothing that really stood out . Nothing to justify the expense ( and I’m talking top end ridiculous) I’m not only disappointed but quite surprised...More

My boyfriend took me here for dinner the other night. The food was quite tasty and I really liked the goat curry. Servings were reasonable, although the prices are on the higher side. Came away very full and satisfied from the food point of view....More

Had the Saigon desgusty, all superb including amazing dessert! Washed down by Viet version of negroni and excellent Southern Highlands Chardonnay. Great service, reasonably priced. Put it on rotation

It has been a couple of years since our last visit, and we were really looking forward to it. But unfortunately we were quite disappointed. Red Lantern used to be something quite special: great bar (excellent cocktails) out the back, exemplary and innovative/authentic Vietnamese food,...More

Home of the small bar revolution in Sydney,
Darlinghurst has more bars per capita than any other

1950’s theme bars to hidden bars requiring secret
passwords. Oxford Street is the "Gay Capital" of
Australia, where gay and lesbian-friendly venues
feature “diva shows” and dancing until the morning.
Vintage lovers flock to Crown Street, and small

Set within a designer space reminiscent of French Colonial Vietnam, Red Lantern on Riley mixes the nostalgia of Indochine with the personal quirkiness of the Nguyen family. The restaurant is owned and operated by chefs Luke Nguyen and Mark Jensen, and Luke's sister Pauline Nguyen. With a focus on shared dishes, an evening at Red Lantern on Riley is an experience best enjoyed with friends and family.
