The cafe is easy to find tho its location is a bit hidden. If you're walking from the Newtown train station, cross the road and walk straight (50-100m) before turning left to a smaller street. The bakery attracts a huge crowd, so you'll probably spot people lining up to get cakes. We went on a Saturday, where there was also... More

There was always a long queue here but don't let that put you off. Not only is the famed water melon cake delicious but so are the lychee cakes as well as the pies and quiches. The biggest problem there is no space or seating where you can eat in comfort.

I have been coming to Black Star since Chris opened several years ago. It is the most consistent bakery you can find in Sydney for my vote. Wonderful, delicious cakes, pastry breads, and lets not forget the lamb shank pies!! I would rate this one of the best in Sydney.

We tried Black Star Pastry based on a friend's recommendation and we were not disappointed. We had a ham and cheese croissant, the strawberry and watermelon cake as well as a raspberry and lychee cake on our first visit. Everything was simply delicious and the cakes were divine. Came back a second time and tried the lamb shank and red... More

It was quite nice not too sweet and the watermelon isn't running all into the rest of the cake as I had thought it would be. Also tried the matcha, raspberry and almond cake, wasn't my favorite but it was ok. Ended... More

We ordered the Strawberry and Watermelon cake for my mums birthday. It was absolutely delicious. Very light and very different. And gluten free.

My girlfriend and I were here on holiday and heard from the locals about this bakery. I'm not a fan of cake so I wasn't looking forward to much despite all the hype we recieved. But the strawberry & watermellon cake was so refreshing and threw my expectations out the window. Definitely a must try!
