Was not sure what we would get when we went in. Not a modern interior but was very pleasantly surprised. Great basic dishes cooked well. Service was fast and friendly. Portions were large. Meat was cooked just right. Everything very tasty. Would recommend.

Very expensive for what you get. Moussaka had to be heated twice and still cold in parts - "no-one else complain". Very bad for $25 dish. Veges tasteless. Poor quality for Newtown. Our error but never again

We dropped in on a busy Saturday night (A show was on at The Enmore Theatre) for a quick meal after seeing a Movie. The service was friendly and quick and the food was great. We started with some Chicken Livers(tasty sauce and not overcooked) and Zucchini fritters (tasty enough) and then we shared a mixed grill and had some... More

Whenever we go to Enmore/Newtown this is the place we eat. Great great food, fabulous and friendly table service, generous portions, nice vibe. Kafenes ticks all the boxes. Remember to book on Saturday nights because it does get busy.

On a busy Saturday at 6pm we sat outside in the protected area on the footpath. Inside was already nearly full. It was a little slow getting started with drinks and glassware, but once we got our mixed dips, we were on our way. Mains arrived 30 minutes later. The slow cooked lamb dishes were scrumptious. The quail was also... More

This is our local but it is so good and so authentic that we regularly take friends and international visitors there. Without exception, our Greek friends credit Kafenes for its authenticity and, for me, the place can't be faulted. Try the slow cooked lamb or pork or any of the barbecue dishes - while everything is good, these are something... More

Been meaning to go here for quite a while and finally made it. Food is excellent, you could close your eyes and think you were eating in a Greek village restaurant. This is not a fancy place but if you are looking for something quick and tasty and enjoy mediterranean cooking, this place is perfect. The restaurant is also nearly... More

Had a quick supper after a show at the Enmore Theatre. Just 3 meze plates, but enjoyed them all, in a bright friendly atmosphere

We love Kafenes. The friendly, homely ambiance - we are treated like family! The Lamb Exohiko is absolutely amazing! It is delicately spiced and is so tender it falls off the bone. Thanks Maria, Sonia & Melissa for all the memorable meals we've enjoyed with you! The only downside is that it's sometimes difficult to find parking.

The food was great, simple, just like your Nonna's cooking. The ladies serving us were so nice. I have wanted to eat here for ages and was not dissapointed. I ate the moussaka, yummy i
