The atmosphere is cosy, the wait staff are friendly and casual, and the beef cheeks in red wine sauce just sing with flavour. There are other typically French things which my partner has told me are good too, but I just keep eating the beef...More

A fantastic experience of old tradition french cuisine prepared like a grand ma would do it. A menu full of French "terroir" product.

It's been around for years but continues to deliver on the same old formula of classic French food, attentive well informed service and great location. In summer you can dine on the pavement, which is a real bonus. It is not cheap but it is...More

It's nice to find a really good authentic French restaurant. Snails were amazing, steak tartare was not bad and the French wine yum. I'm pretty hard to please and I loved this place. I will definitely be back with my girlfriend again soon. Keep up...More

My first visit, and initially I was put off by the signage claim that this place (founded in the 1990s) is Sydney's original French bistro. Anyone who's been around Sydney's inner suburbs for decades could name other French eateries that have come and gone. Our...More

The food is good. So is the wine. But do you know the waitresses can insult you and in front of you. In French. As most of the clients do not speak French, nobody cares. But I'm French. I had dinner there and I spoke...More

We had a really great time at Sel et Poivre for celebrating our wedding with friends (14 people). We are French and so we can tell the food is truly authentic and delicious. Very warm welcoming from François-Xavier and his staff. Thanks so much!!!

We stumbled onto this place by accident as we were visiting at St Vincents Hospital. We had the Escargot, French Onion Soup and Duck Confit (Best I have had in Australia) with potatoes and a wonderful salad washed down with a nice Rose. We had...More

I took my 18 year old son here for lunch after finding it on a reviewers list. It's on an unprepossessing street in Darlinghurst (the self-declared gay centre of Sydney) and doesn't look like much. The decor is a bit tired and the service a...More

Home of the small bar revolution in Sydney,
Darlinghurst has more bars per capita than any other
suburb. Themes range from American whiskey bars and
1950’s theme bars to hidden bars requiring secret
passwords. Oxford Street is the "Gay Capital" of
Australia, where gay and lesbian-friendly venues
feature “diva shows” and dancing until the morning.

Set up by Daniel Perchey and family over 12 years ago, Café Sel & Poivre is the modern French café/restaurant since 1998 that you discovered the last time you were in France with this unique bistro vibe .At Café Sel & Poivre you can experience something as authentic but closer to home. Our restaurant is more than just a café. It oozes French charm and hospitality. The menu is in both English and French and the staff are warm efficient and bilingual. The food is traditional French, from "creamy sauces" of Normandie to Provençale of the East South of France and "the cassoulet" of the South West of France... A bientot donc ! François-Xavier & Gilles.
