The range and quality of Malaysian food is great to please the whole family, while the ambience is perfect for an intimate dinner or one for many. With great views of the harbour and very friendly and quick service, the Malaya is a family favourite and we are sure to make a visit every few months.

The restaurant overlooks Darling Harbour, giving it a great setting. The ambiance is nice and elegant. Service is reasonably quick. The food is great but a bit pricey. The place is always busy, particularly during dinner and a reservation is recommended.

We got here probably one once every 1-2 months cause the food is great, staff are attentive and service is always prompt. it's not cheap especially if you buy a bottle of wine but probably on par with restaurants around darling harbour. but the food is so consistently good that we always keep going back. have to recommend the Sayor... We were here on a Wednesday night in a group of 7 people. Food is amazing, service is very fast (you don't have to wait long after ordering) and its in a fantastic location overlooking King St Wharf. Plenty of places for a pre or post dinner drink.

A massive FAIL. After waiting to get into the second sitting at 8.45 pm Saturday night, just about all the faves not available, I mean they have 25 plus chefs all standing around, and you run out on a Saturday with the main lines like your signature dishes, i.e Pork sambol, chicken sambol, and when we sent back the horrid... Busy Sat night but service was excellent. Great food choices. Well presented. Very good value. Reasonable wine prices. Only problem is the lack of air conditioning on a a hot summers night!

We celebrated New Years here and the food was amazing and the staff was very funny and friendly. We had a wine package included and it was perfect to have with the dinner. One of the best restaurants I have ever visited.

Real shame I was sick last week in Sydney – the heatwave knocked me for six and I went home sick on the day of this visit to The Malaya. I love Malaysian Food, love what Sydney Festival is doing with their Festival Feasts and love Darling Harbour. This venue is win win for me. Luckily and conveniently my back-up... More

Malaya, situated in darling harbour with a Great location and large restaurant space. The restaurant and menu are inspired by the adventures of a merchant and a sailor opened 53 years ago. Quality food and dining experience. We sampled the Sydney festival banquet of their most popular dishes. Salt and pepper prawns, prawn curry, tasty beef rendang and their famous... More

We visited The Malaya as a family dinner, it was a great night out. Awesome menu, great and tasty food, extensive drinks menu and many Mocktails the girls could choose from. We shared a handful of starters which were tasty as! Definately a place to return to. The only downfall was the croud and noise, so highly recommend visiting on... More

Staying in Darling Harbour

Neighbourhood Profile
Darling Harbour
The original docklands of Darling Harbour have been transformed into a tourist mecca with entertainment for the whole family. Cockle Bay Wharf offers dining options from budget to upscale and million dollar views of the harbour. Young crowds gather on weekends for nightlife that ranges from salsa clubs to Dj’s. Families can visit the Chinese Gardens of Friendship or the Sydney Aquarium, one of the largest in the world. The Sydney Maritime Museum and the IMAX theatre are also popular attractions. The Harbourside Shopping Centre is a site unto itself, with hundreds of shops, restaurants and bars. On Saturdays in the summer, the city puts on a spectacular fireworks show along the harbour's shore and there are plenty of other free events during the year - Darling Harbour Fiesta, VIVID’s light installations and the Sydney Festival, just to name a few.
