A change of name, possibly as it now is licensed - reasonably priced wine for the area - meaning slightly over-priced :-) Much the same menu, and pleasant staff - it will be interesting to see if the rather large bar area is used, as it is tucked away at the rear.

Opium Den serves decent-quality Thai food at reasonable prices. Others have commented on it being touristy in the sense that meals are denuded of chili. We certainly did find that was the case with the Crying Tiger, which came with a real bite. Duck dishes seem to something of a specialty of the house, while there are quite a few... More

When we returned to live in Sydney some years ago a little later just along from Macleay Street The Opium Den opened - strange name however eventually we went - so noisy - nothing to reduce the sound with solid floor walls and floor - the food was OK, however because of the noise we tended not to return -... My girlfriend and I visited Opium Den before Christmas, she had last been there 9 years ago when she lived in Australia. The staff were very friendly and the food was divine and well priced. It was so good we had to go back before we left for home and called in for a quick green curry at lunchtime, service... More

I live my life through trip advisor and have never been disappointed. This restaurant was great- had a nice atmosphere, service was good. The food was pretty damm good as well, chicken pad this, red curry and money bags. Couldn't find a fault and would recommend this place to anyone.

I am so lucky to be a local. This extraordinarily cheap but high quality restaurant has never failed to delight. Bring your own wine, make sure you try the soft shell crab salad and the whole snapper with mango relish (if in season), Superb!

We discovered this restaurant in the area where we were staying in Potts Point. It is on McLeay street right next to a bottle shop, which is very helpful if you haven't brought your own wine. The twice-cooked pork belly on the Specials list was silky and unctuous with a rich meaty sauce and crunchy green vegetables. The Miang Kiam... More

I spontaneously went here with my boyfriend and sister. We were more than happy! The food was very good and the prices were more that reasonable. The staff was so friendly and attentive. Tap water and rice were filled up without our request. The location has a good atmosphere. Great place to go out! Would definitely go here again.

Nestled in between Coffee Tea and Me and a barbershop, Opium Den has always been a favourite for a quick bite to eat or something more lavish. Consistency, quality and pricing are standard here, for a great value lunch for $10 you can't got past a pad thai; curry or stirfry available from 11.30 - 4pm daily (Monday - Friday... More
