I had dinner here with a friend who lives in Melbourne and he selected City Wine Shop knowing how I would like it. The menu was great and the food lived up to the anticipation. My friend selected the wine with input from the staff and it was perfect with our food choices. We sat in the back room as... More

Lunch. We had the Risotto and the Waggu Steak (Waggu at this price?). Both perfect. Her Risotto was tasty and refreshing. But my steak was the best medium rare I've had in years. Juicy, tender and what was that sauce. Chips looked soft but no, it was seasoning. a 10. Great service too. Good to get recommendation on the wine... More

Had the opportunity to visit the wine shop in Melbourne. Lovely evening - alfresco overlooking Parliament House. Staff appropriately attentive and sensitive to my being alone on a business trip. Good service and happy to accommodate menu changes. Great wine list too - recommended for a summer evening - especially if you like people watching.

Great gnocchi - very light with wonderful vege (got some lemon to cut through the richness). Lemon tart very good too. Great selection of wine, and knowledgeable staff. 15% surchage on a Sunday is a little OTT - so won't be caught with that again, but will return - just not on a Sunday.

Spent yesterday outside in the (occasional) sunshine enjoying several bottles of wine with family over several hours. I love the fact that you can choose from wines inside at retail prices then consume them for an additional flat rate of $20.00, it makes the experience very cost efficient and you have a great selection to choose from as well as... We popped in for dinner before the theatre and loved it! What a hidden gem from what you see from the outside! Great wine selection (although note sure about the $20 corkage). Food was great!

This local gem of a wine bar has an extraordinary range of French (and other) wines for every palate and budget. Friendly and knowledgeable staff coupled with seriously tasty food in a funky setting makes for a great lunch or dinner.

What an awesome find. Great wine, friendly staff, good selection of tasty wine food. The pork and duck terrine is delectable. Apparently gets very busy, but will be worth the wait!

My partner and I decided to spend an afternoon drinking wine and heard such great things about City wine shop. We couldn't not start with half a dozen oysters. But I wish we hadn't! There was two worms crawling from the shells. When we asked the staff member without a word he took the plate. I am shocked by the... More

Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
Chinatown
Locals know that Chinatown is the tried and true place to eat before hitting the nightclub scene. The place simply buzzes, and the well-preserved buildings exude a sense of Imperial China stemming from immigration over a century ago. In restaurant after restaurant on Little Bourke Street, you'll find delicious dishes such as sizzling honeyed prawns, and value for your money. Stately matrons oversee family kitchens serving up age-old recipes. The lighting may be unromantic, the patrons loud, and the service no-nonsense, but the food is sensational.
