Great food with good Ethiopian beer. We had two omnivores and two vegans that shared a platter each, both were beautifully rich and flavoursome. Service was friendly and efficient. Recommend the beef tartare. There was to much to eat with the two orders. Very cheap and tasty night out.

We were here for a friends birthday party and there were eleven of us. Some of us like spicy food and some prefer things tasty, but not so hot. Abesha was able to cater to all of us. We had three share platters and several other dishes to share. This was plenty of food for all and the flavours were... More

Abesha has reputation for serving better than average African food. Ethiopian restaurants have sprung up by the dozen in Footscray it seems. Abesha is one of the better ones. Eat lots of injera bread it will fill you up. Injera bread is like a big, flat crump, served cold.

Met a friend here for dinner. It was my first time having Ethiopian food and it was so good. We had the vegetarian selection and a raw mince dish (I can't remember the name) both were delicious. I was a bit nervous to try the mince as I've never had raw mince before and wasn't sure if like the texture... More

My first time having ethiopian food after picking up my boyfriend from work at 10pm on a Sunday night. Didn't expect anything to be open, but found Abesha and decided to give it a shot. At 10.30pm, we were the only people there aside from (presumably) the owner and two friends he was talking with. It was a lovely atmosphere,... More

I have visited a number of Ethiopian restaurants in Footscray, but they have rarely up to the standard of Abesha. A few things. You eat with your fingers, using injera bread to scoop up the various dishes. Injera is Ethiopian bread, sort of like a very big spongy crumpet. It is great for sopping up the dishes, which are somewhat... More

We went on the back of rave reviews from friends, whether the expectations were too high or something else we really didn't enjoy the food. The place in nice enough in a shabby way and the service very pleasant. We went for the chefs platter, a selection of all of the vegetarian dishes served on a number of large pancakes... More

I recently ate at Abesha and highly recommend it. The food was fantastic, it came quickly and the service was warm and friendly. You have the option to get one big platter for everyone to share together or separate, individual platters. I got the mixed vegetarian platter which I loved - it came with some salad, various differently-spiced lentil dishes,... More
