When there's only two tables left at the end of the night, and 6 staff behind the bar, it shouldn't require me to stand and wave to order a coffee. Sadly, the service at Bottega, like many Melbourne establishments, is letting down what would otherwise be a decent night out. Here's my 3 rules for Bottega. 1. Go the pasta.... More

Booked for 8pm, seated promptly, but seemed rushed. Had our drinks order taken 20 minutes later. Waiter was lovely but fresh into Australia by a month and was struggling to converse. Entrees 50/50 pork belly being the best is the pick. Main was cannelloni (nice) - goat ragu (delicious) - venison (very nice) - steak ( ordered medium Rare, ended... More

My husband and I recently spent 5 days in Melbourne and during our trip visited many restaurants and cafes. We found the Bottega provided good service and quality food but very small portions for the cost.Compared with similar restaurants it did not provide value for money.

The service was terrific and the food magnificent. My gnocchi was really good. Great atmosphere overlooking Bourke Street on a Friday night.

Set in Little Italy in Melbourne central city, a nice place even for a drink outside to watch the world go by. We were early so did just that first, greeted straight away at the door and served a nice cold prosecco on an outdoor table. Inside we ordered three courses each, my highlight being the Octopus Carpaccio, and my... More

We booked a table at Bottega for dinner after couldn't get in anywhere else and we were so glad that we ended up going to Bottega. Every staff was so friendly and welcoming to start with and we were blown away with the entrees we had. The grilled scallops were to die for... We had pasta as main and both... More

A great experience and glad we made a booking as it was quite busy at 8pm! Service was great, fast and friendly but the atmosphere was drowned out by loud thumping of waiters running up and down stairs all night to the second level. We were seated at a booth right near the base of the stairs, and couldn't hear... More

Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
Chinatown
Locals know that Chinatown is the tried and true place to eat before hitting the nightclub scene. The place simply buzzes, and the well-preserved buildings exude a sense of Imperial China stemming from immigration over a century ago. In restaurant after restaurant on Little Bourke Street, you'll find delicious dishes such as sizzling honeyed prawns, and value for your money. Stately matrons oversee family kitchens serving up age-old recipes. The lighting may be unromantic, the patrons loud, and the service no-nonsense, but the food is sensational.
