While also known for its great Yum Cha, recent visits to Crystal Jade have reiterated to us what a consistent, fine restaurant this is for banquet style dining. Although not inexpensive, dishes such as snow crab with foie gras and wagyu beef are world class and worth the expense. The restaurant has always been helpful in allowing us to bring... More

I really like to convey true experiences on trip advisor so diners can have an insight into restaurants before they visit. This yum (yuk) cha was a unforgettable experience. Not for good reasons... The food on the whole was extremely average. Majority of dishes served had been doing laps around the restaurant. Some possibly as many as the melbourne cup.... More

Had an excellent dinner with the family but delight was not proportional to the price. Overpriced because of their popularity. Equally good restaurants at more reasonable price available

I usually try to give restaurants and other services the benefit of the doubt when writing my reviews. This restaurant won't get any sympathy from our group. We called for reservations and got the time we wanted. We didn't make it clear that we wanted the dum sum (only served at some lunchtimes with 3 seatings) so we came in... More

We were lucky that we only had a 10 minute wait for a table. It's at the top of the stairs and you take a number during busy times. You have 1 hour to eat before you hand back your table. But you'll see why it's so popular - excellent food, excellent choices, well-run, fast service. Perfect for delicious Yum... More

May be because of the dishes that we have ordered, we found this Chinese restaurant expensive. Taste ok, rather original Chinese, but not exactly pure Cantonese nor Shanghaiese food, a mixture, I guess.

We met a friend for lunch and the three of us had an amazing tim sum meal. Despite the 1-hour time limit imposed on the table, we were able to really feel at home with the dishes. It was like we were back in Crystal Jade in Singapore!!!! A definitely must visit again restaurant!!!

Firstly this is NOT the great Crystal Jade of Asia so that should be known. It's good for dim sum - quick efficient no frills at all but the most efficient on floor trolley service for dim sum you can find in Melbourne - it's Always packed - people in like sardines but somehow it works Flavours of Hong Kong... 2nd visit to this place however this time I booked and was seated at a great table where I can access the food trolley and the fantastic selection of food. Service was top notch. Calamari was very tender with lots of msg - delicious. They told me the Crab and pork dumpling was a special so I ordered it to... More

Classic Sunday Yum Cha with all the normal offerings. Some of the food wasn't really up to par (squid was cold and chewy) but staff were happy to take it off the bill. Do a special order for duck pancakes!

Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
Chinatown
Locals know that Chinatown is the tried and true place to eat before hitting the nightclub scene. The place simply buzzes, and the well-preserved buildings exude a sense of Imperial China stemming from immigration over a century ago. In restaurant after restaurant on Little Bourke Street, you'll find delicious dishes such as sizzling honeyed prawns, and value for your money. Stately matrons oversee family kitchens serving up age-old recipes. The lighting may be unromantic, the patrons loud, and the service no-nonsense, but the food is sensational.
