After a visit to the Arts Centre, and needing to catch a train home, we decided to try Taxi Kitchen for convenience (opposite Flinders Street Station). On reaching the restaurant upstairs my first impression was 'this is gonna cost a bomb' because of the high...More

We chose the three course Theatre Menu. Two choices for each course, both delicious. Attentive staff and great views. Excellent position in Federation square, close to Theatre and other attractions. Definitely will return again.

We started with the turnip cakes for dinner. They were delicious, including a dipping sause. I ordered the duck. This dish was well balanced, the sweetness of the duck was balanced with a citrus slaw. My wife ordered the salmon, which was cooked perfectly, was...More

This was a disappointing experience after a great previous visit. The waitress was quite rude and even slightly aggressive (really set a bad tone for the evening); and while the service from other staff was fairly attentive, they also got things wrong, e.g. delivered cocktails...More

This is a form of Asian Fusion Cuisine, where Asian is interpreted fairly liberally - I had Persian Lamb for instance that was very tasty, but the portion was tiny. A wide range of fish and meat dishes, some on the spicy side.

We were surprised to fine this excellent restaurant in Federation Square, as much of that area is filled with touristy places. We climbed the stairs to the top floor and were greeted by our waiter for the evening. What a fabulous waiter he was! The...More

Walked into the store filled with high expectations (due to great reviews on tripadvisor) during non-peak hour. Walked out of the restaurant in less than 5 mins. Reason: We were not allowed to choose where we want to sit other than tables with 2 person...More

Surprised some dear friends with booking our evening for dinner here. I wanted them to experience the fabulous City views. I knew the food was exceptional, having dined here before and that the service is excellent too. I knew this would be a great night....More

Didn't plan to come here, but we got caught in a storm and ended up here. How lucky we were, great menu and wine list.. Excellent staff.. A good night... And jazz on the garden roof bar. What more could you want!

Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways

feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the
city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques,
throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You
never quite know what you’ll find around the next
corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and
even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air

For a 180 degree view of Melbourne's city skyline, Yarra River and Arts Precinct, journey to Taxi Kitchen in Federation Square's Transport Hotel. Hosting cocktail events, a la carte dining, pre-show drinks and boasting three private function dining rooms, Taxi Kitchen dazzles guests with views through floor to ceiling glass windows complemented by earthy tones, indoor greenery and natural light for a clean, semi-alfresco feel. Playful menu items provoke a certain inquisitiveness of guests, charmingly presented on a bed of black pebbles, rustic wooden boards or in colourful, textured dishes. Delight in any or all six courses from seared scallops with red radish, smoked chilli mayo and katiafi to Wagyu porterhouse with creamed potato and jus gras - just be sure to leave room for dessert
