Bustling atmosphere in a great location looking over the Yarra river. Excellent service from friendly staff with a wide selection of food options. The rooftop bar is a top spot.

Great menu and even better service. Dropped in for lunch to be welcomed by Simon. Service by the team was attentive and well informed. Menu made choosing dishes a challenge though the starter special of port and prawn gyozas was delicious. We followed with the crispy skinned salmon which was a treat. Finishing off with the triple cream Brie with... More

We had a lovely meal to finish our honeymoon at Taxi Kitchen. Great set menu all really well put together. Lovey mix of flavours, notably the use of a bit of spice in the dishes. Not something you usually find in tasting menus in the U.K. Picturesque setting with the sun going down behind Eureka building.

The title of the review says the story, really. There was simple, high quality fare, with enough flair infused for the genuine foodie to retain interest in what was offered.

Lunch with friend from USA. Pleasant views of Federation Square and the river. Young waitress provided very good service. You order food and drinks at the bar. Beer could have been a little colder. Meals were really tasty, freshly prepared and with great ingredients. My chicken burger was crispy but moist and lovely coleslaw flavours. Would certainly go back.

Taxi is a very good restaurant, it would be a stretch to call it fine dining, but the food is very good. Highlights for me were the great location overlooking Federation Square, the river and Flinders St Station, along with the excellent french somellier who was genuinely engaging and relaxed.

Have visited here multiple times and I have never been let down. Such a great place to take out of towners as they really easily impressed and you know your in for a good night. Service is always fast and one of the only places I am never looking around for a waiter or waitress for a drink!! The bread... More

Saturday night dinner - had to talk a friend into going to Taxi as had heard very mixed reports about it. Unfortunately his hesitance was justified. Menu was too "try hard" with no really straight forward dishes on offer. The entree dumplings were nice & tasty however the mains were a let down. The porterhouse steak was almost a mass... More

Description
For a 180 degree view of Melbourne's city skyline, Yarra River and Arts Precinct, journey to Taxi Kitchen in Federation Square's Transport Hotel. Hosting cocktail events, a la carte dining, pre-show drinks and boasting three private function dining rooms, Taxi Kitchen dazzles guests with views through floor to ceiling glass windows complemented by earthy tones, indoor greenery and natural light for a clean, semi-alfresco feel. Playful menu items provoke a certain inquisitiveness of guests, charmingly presented on a bed of black pebbles, rustic wooden boards or in colourful, textured dishes. Delight in any or all six courses from seared scallops with red radish, smoked chilli mayo and katiafi to Wagyu porterhouse with creamed potato and jus gras - just be sure to leave room for dessert

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
