Beer hall in China Town sounds a bit odd but it's certainly worth a visit. Great atmosphere, live music and some good food. Try the schnapps!

Went for an early dinner and the place was already packed. Fantastic wait staff, they were fast, efficient and friendly. Band started and the place just buzzed. Happy people enjoying good food. Bring an appetite and enjoy the relaxed fun vibe.

Dined solo on a Thursday night. Service was good. Food was good. The pretzel was very tasty and the Swiss Schnitzel was okay. Very generous servings of food overall. Alpine Orchid cocktail was better. Would go back just for the pretzel and the cocktail.

Great authentic food, well priced. Fast service Has been a few years since our last visit, has possibly changed owners since? Has lost a little of the ambiance it once had, beer menu is not what it used to be either. Will be back, but...More

This is not a place for a quiet tete a tete - at least, not when the band is playing, or for those on a diet unless you plan to share! But that said, there are lots of other reasons to go and enjoy the...More

Outstanding place. Food is delicious, big portions at a responsible price, the drinks were very good, the band created a fun atmosphere but most important was the staff. They were lovely and made dinning there a pleasurable experience. Definitely a credit to the business.

Relaxed German restaurant with quick friendly service. We had the Tuesday night schnitzel special and it was yummy and plentiful! Great tasty beers to accompany were included in the special. It was disappointing that happy hour prices were not valid in the restaurant.

Locals know that Chinatown is the tried and true place

Since 1968, Melbourne’s notoriously hard-to-please restaurant-goers have elected the Hofbräuhaus the best place for Bavarian food, Bier, fun and fröhlich. We’re passionate about our traditions and proud of our pure Biers hand-picked from the finest breweries in Bavaria. When you join us for lunch or dinner you’ll appreciate why we set a very high standard in providing quality hand-made Bavarian foods to family recipes that are guaranteed to satisfy your taste buds and your appetite. Having occupied the same spot in Market Lane in the heart of Melbourne for over 50 years, but steeped in traditions from the heart of Bavaria the atmosphere is like nothing else.
