Sadly after over 10 years of great evenings the standard has dropped so badly that we will not be back. We hear that the chef has moved and the new chef is terrible. The chicken was overcooked and tough, the other meals lacked flavour and the waitress had to continually refer to the chef for questions about the menu. Just... More

I'm sorry to hear that were not happy with your experience as we pride ourselves with the quality of our dishes and service. Your waiter recently started working with us and was asked by your table regarding coeliac safe dishes among other questions. We treat such things seriously and regardless of the waiters confidence will confirm with the chef. Regarding... More

As you walk along Lygon Street there are many "spuikers" trying to get you into their restaurants / free drinks etc. At Pasta Rustico there was a lovely gentlemen who only promised you would not be disappointed with the restaurant. He was correct. It was relatively quiet, service was prompt and efficient. We started with herbed bread, mains Vitello Funghi... More

The food, service and value for money were excellent. We all ordered pasta dishes and, given the size of the servings, the ladies were struggling to finish their meals. Will definitely be returning next time we're in Melbourne!

The afternoon was wet and windy after a torrential downpour. At 5pm we wanted something warm. Even though the restaurant was just setting up for dinner, they made us feel very welcome. The chicken salad was fresh and herb bread delightful. Steak was cooked to perfection. We recommend the panna cotta and tiramisu for dessert.

Sitting at the table watching the world pass by was a great way to spend a summer's lunch. Rustic interior with matching waiter. Food was prompt, carbonara was awesome. Kids menu is basic, but covers the usual suspects. Only a few pizza options, so more focussed on pastas than anything else. Lots of options for Italian on Lygon, this won't... More

2nd time I've eaten here, first time 3 years ago. I really like this place. The food tastes fresh and portion sizes are generous ( I didn't eat all my entree size pasta, big serve). Our waiter was fantastic and seemed to be able to pick his audience. Quite jokey and relaxed with us, more formal with the next table.... More

A lovely gentle restaurant on Lygon Street where many places can be rather crowded. The food was superb- we had Gnocchi Bolognese and Morton Bay Bug Linguini. The service was excellent- unobtrusive but available when needed. In tone and style it felt just like one of the many traditional restaurants we have visited in Italy.

Sadly the standards have dropped here. The pasta is served with too much garlic, and the marinara is being rationed and tastes as though it has been boiled, not grilled. Going to have to give this place a miss from now on.

Have eaten here on a few visits to Melbourne and as usual it was a great meal. We had a group of 9 which they easily accommodated outside. Staff were welcoming and friendly.

Visited there on recommendation as a good Italian restaurant. Certainly wasn't disappointed. Service was great as was the food. Four of us had gnocchi with different sauces and all of us loved it. The gnocchi was beautifully soft and the sauce (I had bolognaise) and it was delicious. Price was reasonable at $22 - 24 for a main. They also... More

Staying in Lygon Street

Neighbourhood Profile
Lygon Street
If you want real parmesan, cut from the block, grated over your pasta with a twist of style, this is the place. Until recently, this neighbourhood was home to the notorious ‘Carlton Crew,’ a pseudo mafia who started their day with a local espresso. They are gone, but the espresso still runs strong in this Little Italy which has something for everyone. Starched white tablecloths, candles, pizza the way they do it "back home" and maybe even a bit of amore. The number of gelato choices will leave you in a state of indecision and wide footpaths, big awnings and a sea of packed tables makes this al fresco dining experience a continental buzz. Even if you’re not eating, it’s worth the stroll just for the people-watching, which, of course, is an Italian tradition.
