If you want a reliable yum breakfast or lunch or place to meet friends - this is top of my list in Sth Melbourne. It is invariable full because so many people love it - but try your luck for a table outside. The meals come out reasonably fast, and everything tastes good. The staff are friendly. They also have... We really couldn't fault our breakfast here. Both meals were a good size, with perfectly cooked poached eggs and grilled bacon. The coffee was excellent, as was the service. We found both the food and the coffee to be really well priced. I recommend the chilli eggs. Will definitely return.

We would visit most weekends for breakfast, coffee and papers , always agreat way to start a weekend. The eggs were expensive but we did not mind as we liked the familiarity . Over time the eggs were still great free range , but the toast got smaller and smaller until one day the toast arrived 140mm x 60 mm ,... More

We thoroughly enjoyed a lovely Sunday morning breakfast at Cafe Sweethearts. I had pancakes which were delicious and hubby had Eggs Benedict which he loved. The staff are so pleasant and attentive. We didn't need to ask for anything nor did we have to wait long for our order. Highly recommend.

I was staying just around the corner from the cafe and popped in for breakfast. I ordered a fresh orange juice which was probably the best I have had in a restaurant anywhere! A great start! The food was delicious, apparently it has been established for quite a while but it looked modern and fresh. It's very close to the... More

This place has been making fantastic Eggs Benedict even before it become popular and they still do it best. Have the eggs Benedict with tomato chilli sauce and you will never enjoy better! Crispy potato hash browns are awesome too.

A Melbourne institution, Cafe Sweethearts, continues to offer a pleasant brunch. While not as adventurous as in prior times, the overall quality is decent and the service friendly and excellent.

Cafe Sweethearts used to be the spot for a great breakfast back in the 90's before everyone got into serving breakfast in Melbourne. Still a good product though, a traditional breakfast. Behind the times in a way.

Staying in South Melbourne

Neighbourhood Profile
South Melbourne
South Melbourne hosts the city’s oldest continuous market, founded in 1867. Rows of neatly arranged fruit, vegetables and flowers splash yellows, greens and reds along the entire perimeter, where the whole neighbourhood gathers for Saturday feasts. Inside the hall, shoppers hover over the mouth-watering displays of delicatessens and specialty food shops. Further in, a bazaar full of giftware, clothing, and kitchen utensils completes the scene. Take a break to walk the wide and shady streets and stroll along the Victorian-era heritage terrace houses. But return to the market in time for some paella, simmering in three large frypans on the footpath and served straight onto your plate.
