The place was okay and so were the dumplings but the noodles tasted like cigarette smoke!? I thought at first someone had lit up inside but when I smelt the noodles it was strong and gross. Be very selective in what you choose to eat.

I have been visiting this restaurant since I was born! Unfortunately, the dumplings don't taste as good as they used to, the filling has changed over time. I still enjoy their food, the shanghai noodles are my favourite as well as their sweet and sour pork, yum!! The service is pretty average but the food comes out very soon after... More

Have been here a number of times and comes highly recommended. Quick and easy food, which is perfect for informal dinners with friends.

Yes that's right... a dump. I am appalled as I have heard so much good things about this place, however their dumplings were completely tasteless and dry, just like the service and attitude of employees. Do not go here.

I ordered the dan dan noodles, and wow. These rival any noddles out of China and there pork sauce was full of flavour, I recommend this Restaurant not for the environment, not for the service, but the food is amazing,

Worst meal I've ever had in any Chinatown world wide! I ordered fried fish with noodles. They were the two minute type, fish was dry and tasteless and the veges tinned peas and corn! Dont bother!

Don't even waste your time! Group of 4, 20somethings visited on a saturday night. After trying out a few dumpling houses round China Town, we thought we would try this one. Never. Again. Yes, I realise the dumplings are cheap, but I did expect a bit more, like to be able to eat them. Dumplings in soup, literally tasted like... More

You can get 20 dumplings for about $6 (maybe less I can't remember exactly) but four of us ate a decent dinner for $8 each. So very very cheap. The xiao long bao are pretty terrible though (not much soup in them and the meat is kind of gross) the other dumplings are all good. Excellent pumpkin cakes and the... More

Asking you to pay half way through your meal. In such a rush to cash up at lunch time, I do not recommend this place

We dined here with friends on our excursion to Melbourne. This backpacker restaurant was close enough to our hotel and serves local Chinese Dumplings with other sorts of food, such as fried rice, e-fu noodles and other local dumplings eaten in Shanghai. The food was very average to slightly poor, the dumplings were too dry, the fried rice too little... More

Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
Chinatown
Locals know that Chinatown is the tried and true place to eat before hitting the nightclub scene. The place simply buzzes, and the well-preserved buildings exude a sense of Imperial China stemming from immigration over a century ago. In restaurant after restaurant on Little Bourke Street, you'll find delicious dishes such as sizzling honeyed prawns, and value for your money. Stately matrons oversee family kitchens serving up age-old recipes. The lighting may be unromantic, the patrons loud, and the service no-nonsense, but the food is sensational.
