I would not know what the food is like. We Ordered two chicken parmigiana and two beers. Received the beers and nothing else. For over 40 mins we sat there and waited patiently. Got up and paid for the beers which I should not have had to. Care factor of the waitress was abhorrent. Won't be back. Be careful.

Food is exceptionally well priced & with a very diversified menu. You can't leave this place hungry.Get there aroung 6.00 pm( ish) otherwise you will probably have to queue.Even if you have to queue , the wait is worth it.Considering other eateries are close by & sometimes not busy, speaks volumes for Universal

Tomato carpaccio was made with thick slices of tasteless tomatoes - despite being in the thick of tomato season. The mozzarella was nice, but severely let down by the tomatoes. A carpaccio should be thin, delicate slices, not slabs. And if you can't make it with fresh, flavoursome tomatoes, don't make it at all! Pizza was ok but not great,... More

I decided to eat inside as people were smoking at the outside eating area (illegal in Sydney but no so in Melbourne). Anyway the restaurant was extremely busy but the service was very friendly. The waiting time was a bit slow but given the number of customers and the size of the meal it was worth the wait. I'm a... More

A great lunch meal - pizza and drink for $10. Pasta and drink was about $14. Solid quality food. Friendly service. Nice atmosphere. Reasonably priced extras (wine and dessert)

From the outset the old addage of eating where the locals go sits well with this place. We waited in line to be shown a table which was near the entry so a tad noisey however we were hungry and didn't mind. The table was still wet from the wipe down - obviously showing the staff to be very busy....would... More

This place has HUGEEEEEE schnitzels! Awesome crumb and VERY affordable. Service is quick, and to the point - but it's got a line up, so everyone knows it's a great place, and you're best to get there for an early dinner (5:30pm), otherwise, it'll be line ups for you if you're later! Our schnitzel was easily 14 inches long and... More

Took a friend from Sydney here to get a giant schnitzel, he had his heart set on the pizza. I ate half of my schnitzel (it's ginormous!) and took the other half home, but he downed a whole pizza. It's great here!

First the good points: it not expensive, portions are big (most Patrons reflect that too). Service is efficient. To me, eating Italian is about charm, quality, smells, taste. It has to do with what's around me, als much als what's on the plate. See, when our 7 year old complains about the quality of the ham, you know there were... More

Staying in Lygon Street

Neighbourhood Profile
Lygon Street
If you want real parmesan, cut from the block, grated over your pasta with a twist of style, this is the place. Until recently, this neighbourhood was home to the notorious ‘Carlton Crew,’ a pseudo mafia who started their day with a local espresso. They are gone, but the espresso still runs strong in this Little Italy which has something for everyone. Starched white tablecloths, candles, pizza the way they do it "back home" and maybe even a bit of amore. The number of gelato choices will leave you in a state of indecision and wide footpaths, big awnings and a sea of packed tables makes this al fresco dining experience a continental buzz. Even if you’re not eating, it’s worth the stroll just for the people-watching, which, of course, is an Italian tradition.
