The team at Taiko deliver over and over, quick attentive service followed by super fresh food. Meals can be a selection of small plates so come as they are prepared. Plenty to choose from on both the food and drinks menu. If you are two people ask to sit at the counter to watch the wonderful goings on in the... More

Came here with my extended family (they are regular visitors) so it came highly recommended! didn't know what to expect, not visited a genuine Japanese restaurant previously......first impression was somewhat odd.....down a side street right next to the train station. the whole place might seem dated (but this is coming from a UK citizen, not a laid back Aucklander!), but... Team Taiko were/are a dream. Our host thoughtfully chose what we ate, so we never even picked up the menu. His experience wisdom and charm (along with my alluring company) made this truly unforgettable, and my #1 restaurant full-stop in NZ. I'd recommend to all, plus finishing off with the ginger ice-cream (no matter how full you feel).

A good opportunity to experience a range of Japanese dishes. A party of four, we went for the banquet which was great. Starting with "Edamame" (boiled soy beans) then a selection of starters to share, sushi, "Ebi Fry (Tiger prawns) and then mains of chicken & beef. The dishes just kept coming and all served to share and all delicious.... More

Three of us had dinner here. Parking was difficult, but once at the cafe it was suggested that next time we park in Sandringham Road and use the railway overbridge to reach New North Road. Good idea. We were warmly greeted by the barman and wait staff, and quickly given menus and water. We ordered two shared dishes at a... More

I love Japanese food and while this was certainly not the best I've had, it was still bloody good. The atmosphere was great. Fine dining service but the owner brings a lot more charm and humour to the table. Prices were standard. The small sharing dishes soon fill you up if you are going with that option. Also very handy... More

The service at Taiko is above and beyond anything I have ever experienced. Ian goes out of his way to ensure all his customers have an outstanding meal. I had a large group of 25 people and everyone was fed a delicious meal and catered for with their individual dietary needs. Thanks Ian for making my birthday dinner such a... More

Been here a couple of times and enjoyed the food both times. Staple Japanese dishes on menu but with a little twist. A little pricey compare to your average Japanese. However you get what you paid for. Great quality food with excellent ingredients. Good service.
