We went for an early dinner on a Sunday. It was very quiet probably because it was early. We were very pleased with the fast, efficient and friendly service service. Both my husband and I ordered the Surf and Turf. The steaks were cooked to...More

Nicely presented meal & professional atmosphere on a notably quiet Thursday lunchtime hour, not as many patrons as I had expected for an inner city cafe. Although the waitress was thoroughly attentive, suggesting I sit near the heater for warmth in Winter & asked how...More

The food was amazing but disappointed by terrible service, very slow and we had to keep prompting our waiter to take our orders for drinks, main etc.

We visited Metropolis on a Tuesday night, and found the experience very disappointing. On arriving, we were offered a table near the front, however it was cold (there was a gas heater but it wasn't on despite it being a freezing Hamilton night). The waitress...More

Description
Metropolis Caffe has been a timeless gem in the heart of Hamilton CBD since 1991 serving breakfast, lunch, diners and out-caterings. It has been awarded multiple awards for the best cafe both locally and nationally. This place registered under Historic place trust of Hamilton, used to be known as 'Paul's Book Arcade' which was one of the 10th biggest books arcade at the time and relocated to this site in 1925 by William Paul, designed by Ernst Plischke. It's floor was covered by large black and white tiles in a chequer board pattern. This design was radically modern given the period and character of the small provincial town that Hamilton was at the time. Now, the only remains of Paul's Book Arcade appear to be a position of the black and white tiling, the street-front display cabinet and the mezzanine floor and stairs.
