We saw this place and decided to try. Great welcome and service and sat outside for our Whale Platter. One was enough for both of us. Excellent food and a really great lunch. Recommended

We've been here a few times and it's a good Local Bar in Napier where you can go for a drink beside the water and watch the boats come in or a great sunset :) It's in Ahuriri (only 5mins drive from Napier central and a lot of locals go here as there are 4-5 bars/restaurants grouped together. Good food,... More

Great location but very pricey for the food. Venison burger tasted like a frozen hamburger patty from the supermarket my mother used to buy for BBQs bit of lettuce and tomato think something else just very expensive at $19.00 other meals on the table didn't fare much better comments, chicken burger was told was good. Friendly service.

I'm surprised by your comments andreasm63 all our burgers are big selling dishes in the restaurant and are very popular. We also receive many complimentary reports about all our burgers and comments that they are reasonably price for the size and quality of them. More

The Thirsty Whale lived up to its reputation. We enjoyed entrees of calamari and arancini balls then shared the seafood extravaganza. All were wonderful, paua patty was full of flavour, whitebait tasted like whitebait should and the prawns and scallops were cooked perfectly. The blackberry/blueberry crumple was lovely and finished off a great meal. Backed up by friendly service. Thank... More

Thirsty Whale has a relaxing atmosphere, staff are consistently friendly and very helpful. Great location looking out over harbour and fishing boats. Prices are reasonable, food is good, not top end but just what we usually are looking for. On a weekend can get very busy, particularly dinner time and late evening. Can be quieter mid evening, daytime varies with... More

As it was the Art Deco Festival weekend and masses of people were in town we tried to get reservations here but they were already booked so we decided to just pop in and see if we could get in. We were offered seating at the bar which was fine and were waited on very promptly. We were warned when... More

Arrived at the end of the day with no booking. Place was really busy but I had spotted a free table upstairs looking out at the harbour view- asked on a long shot if we could sit there. They said it was on reserve but they were happy to let us use it if we finished by a certain time.... More
