My daughter has been living in Taupo for the past 6 months and when we came to visit she took us to her favourite restaurant the bistro. It met our expectations, fantastic food in fact probably the best ravioli I have eaten. The service was very friendly and helpful, lovely surroundings I would definitely recommend eating here.

This was a special occasion so I selected The Bistro with care (thanks Trip Advisors). The outside of the restaurant is understated but don't let that put you off, it's what is inside that matters. Booking would be essential - we did so about six weeks before and they only had two slots available all evening! For some the cuisine... More

From the moment we walked in we were made feel uncomfortable. It was our final dinner in New Zealand. We were: - greeted rudely even though we had made a booking - drinks took 40 minutes to get to us. The order was incorrect and took another 30 to get to us. - incorrect bottle of wine bought to us.... More

We ordered the calamari which was delicious! My partner ordered a medium rare steak which was cooked to perfection! My ribs were fall off the bone and waiter was very helpful and friendly. We couldn't eat desert as the portions were good sized servings. We were so pleased with our dining experience here that we'll definitely be back when passing... More

Hapuka (main) dish was top notch in terms of taste and texture. Chocolate 'mousse' was more a chocolate sauce pudding than a mousse, served hot, but still rich and flavoursome. In light of recent experiences in Queenstown, my high recommendation here comes from the service - staff were very attentive to our needs, and despite the busy-ness on the night,... More

I was here two years ago with my mum and tonight I came back with my husband. It is a fantastic restaurant and head chef Jude is serious about the quality and flavours of his creations! If you are into your food and after a great place to have dinner and some great wines, this is the place you need... More

I had the duck and my husband the pork belly. We exchanged bites and then argued whose was better. We were both very happy with our choices. The taster of ceviche was a nice touch (if only she spoke slower...). The baked mousse was a perfect finish. Thank you!

Had the back ribs and steak platter...was excellent (my steak was perfectly medium rare) along with a baked potato and a dark beer. It was served with vegetables and was a very large portion of food (and yes, I finished every last bite (but skipped dessert which is rare for me!)). Meal was a bit on the pricey side but... More

The Husband and I decided to try The Bistro as it ranked #3 on Trip Advisor. Were sorely disappointed and sadly felt we had wasted our $116. There was no atmosphere; the service seemed unprofessional from one staff member & somber from the other & we just didn't feel comfortable or enjoy our time. Was no background music, so could...
