Had heard good things about Ye Olde Malthouse and was not disappointed. A friendly welcome, great atmosphere and good wholesome, well prepared food that was well worth the money. We had a family of four with 2 eating the children's choices and including drinks and two courses each it was $140. Definitely thought there was thought and creativity behind the... More

Finally walked into the malthouse after many times walking by and wondering what it was like. I remember when it was the ice-cream factory ! So we stepped in and what a great surprise , it was a friday night and the place was packed, there was one table left and we sat down. We were just going to have... More

Just had takeaway pizza from the The Malthouse. It was very tasty, we had the blue chesse beef and the Americano. However for $18 each I was expecting a standard large pizza not a Pizza Hut style small. So I felt it was expensive for what you got. Having said that the flavours were intense and mixed with a homemade... More

This place was recommended by local place we were staying, different name on map of 'Dodson St Restaurant'. Lovely feeling in this (still current) brewery. If you are a beer fan; quite a selection of local beers available, nice selection of local wines also and staff who are knowledgable in this area. Great service, fab food; smoked salmon was excellent... More

Nice old style pub with charm. We both had pizzas and they were really good. Would have liked a cider on tap. It was too cold when we were there to enjoy it, but has a lovely beer garden.

Only really went as it had a pick up / drop off service but was very pleased we did. 4 adults and 2 young children and we were very well looked after. Food was very good, decent menu plus full range of pizzas. They have an exceptional range of decent ales (best I've come across in NZ having lived here... More

Never even got to try the food or the beers as the reception I received mid afternoon when I popped in to look at a menu and perhaps make a booking for a family meal that night was so rude it was ridiculous. We went to Bamboo Garden instead and had a great evening. I won't go back to the... More

This is a really nice place to go for a quiet beer and pizza. Try the Father Ted lager.

Forget the town, get to the Malthouse or the Dodson to the locals. Great food, my favorite is the BlueCheese sausages made to owner Ted's own recipe. Ted even has his own brew, Father Ted of course. You won't find your normal beer here all boutique brewery beers on tap including some great English ales.
