This Chef knows how to play with the season and try to find best opportunity to accommodate meals with the right accompaniments: wild smoky mushrooms for instance as we are in Autumn or a delicious Pumpkin soup, coq au vin... Simple but truly authentic with local and high quality ingredients this menu is an excellent recommendation for all who appreciate... More

This is a funky little place but the food is outstanding. They serve a ceviche with coconut milk and it is beyond amazing. Three of us had dinner there on a Saturday. Two of us had wild mushroom risotto and it was perfectly prepared. My wife had the fish of the day and said it was excellent. They have a... More

We happened upon this during a stay in Sumner (Christchurch.) We were not disappointed with our meals. The staff was friendly and the food was excellent. My wife is gluten-free and dairy-free and she was able to find something to eat without any issues.

We originally intended to go Joes Garage but it was full so we ended up at The Cornershop Bistro. It looked a bit average but we were hungry so we chanced it and we pleasantly surprised. Decor is pretty average but the foid is really good. I had the brunch salad and really enjoyed the crunchy fried lentils. Drinks came... More

If you are ready to eat at 5:30, make the most of the Bistro Bites offer. The 5 main meals on the menu are on offer for NZ$20 each providing you eat between 5:30 and 7:00pm. We enjoyed the Coq au Vin with the added side dish of beans with roasted garlic and lentils and it was absolutely delicious. The... More

Consistently the best dining in Sumner. Quality food, interesting changes to the menu without asking ridiculous price. Attentive and informed staff. And a nice ambiance. Our favourite. Yes we are locals. Yes we have eaten here many times over the last few years. Yes to Coq au Vin.

We try to eat here on each NZ trip. I think it has been getting better year-on-year. Very high quality and consistent cooking - "Bistro" undersells it now I think. Very interesting daily specials (including really good hot oyster option). Varied and interesting wine list. I haven't eaten anywhere better in Christchurch.

This cafe is underrated (I think because it isn't on the beach) don't be deterred!! It's worth the 200m walk from the beach. The food is excellent, the coffee is great, the seats have high backs (omg I am so sick of sitting on stalls), they cater for dogs, kids, babies, couples, large groups, intimate, casual, dressy, takeaway, gym clothes... Absolutely loved tonights visit to this lovely bistro. The hustle and bustle creates a great atmosphere and the service was excellent. Starters were a subtle carrot and coriander soup with toasted ciabatta, a shared sourdough and feta dip (perfect light starter) and the huge but tasty duck crepe. Mains were an amazing coq-au-vin and ciabatta with sides of garlic green... More
