Just a short distance up the road from the Octagon, this café serves a good selection of snacks and is great on a cold wet day. I enjoyed coffee and a toasted ham/cheese, while my wife had a bowl of soup and a bread bun, all good.

With plenty of choice in that area of Dunedin, I was invited by friends to join them for lunch at "Black Dog". A lunch time crowd had already gathered, possibly a good indication of its popularity. Coffees were ordered and arrived promptly and meal choices were placed at the counter so no table service was required. Different choices of meals... More

Dropped in for a coffee and desert on the way back to our hotel. The lattes were excellent as was the dessert we chose. Great ambiance but ruined by the poor attitude of the staff working there. We will not be returning.

Had breakfast - good selection of choices on menu and in cases. Toast was plain white toast- nothing special. Eggs fine, bacon rather fatty. Had a veggie filo wrap with non- descript filling. Staff not able to answer questions about the food ( eg, what is in that dish?) and not able to make just a regular cup of coffee!

We arrived in Dunedin at neatly 8pm, and were keen to find something to eat. The Scenic Hotel, where we stayed looked quite prices. The Black Dog is next door, and looked just right. We ate fish burgers, chips, and a bottle of Pinot Gris. $110 for 4. The food was delicious, and the staff were lovely. Recommended!

Was recommended by John at Speight's ale tours. So we stopped in for a bite to eat. I had a chicken burger with fries and the wife had the black dog big breakfast. Wow is what comes to mind, service to serving our meal. Then once we got our meal absolute beautiful and very full after it. The meal is... More

First night entree and main. Wrong choice - the meals are big and entree would have been enough. Can recommend the deep fried camembert. Cheese rolls are flat and cooked in a sandwich press - a no no. Staff very good
