Four of us enjoyed a great lunch here. I selected the bangers and mash, my partner the spare ribs and the others both selected fish and chips. We all agreed that the meals were great value. My bangers and mash comprised two huge sausages served with a thick gravy on a substantial bed of mashed potatoes together with a large... More

Relatively big place emphasising sports on the many tv screens. The food is nice and the waiters are attentive. You get a good choice of beer from the tap. It cam get rather noisy.

The Speights Ale House looks great from inside. Downstairs is a long bar, upstairs it is a bit more intimate. The waiters are all very friendly and try to help you with the menu. It is a pity, that the meals were not as good as we expected. A bit flat fatty taste, especially the fish and chips, and just... More

The food was awesome, big portions as well! I ordered the BLT, my mum ordered the most amazing soup we have ever tasted in our lives - Curried Kumara and my dad ordered the flat iron steak (actually quite a big sucker) The service was awesome and the restaurant was nice and clean!

It was speights ale house but off dee st. late lunch and were not expecting greatness but the waitress organised the bread and dips for one rather than two per menu , very good Mrs H said. I am a soup fan so ordered the potato cheese& chilli soup. Well constructed balance soup , was a credit to the chef.... More

Was recommended by the hotel concierge for a simple good meal. Even though we were warned of the huge serve sizes, we were still surprised when they arrive. My wife's entree grilled lamb was as big as any main. The service was great. We were settled down for a drink before the table upstairs in the dinner area was ready.... More

Ordered the $38 venison main which turned out to be more like an entree size, meat overcooked despite menu saying it was supposed to be medium rare, a miserable few beans on a cheesy potato crisp and pepper port reduction was tasteless. Very disappointed, and made worse as it took far too long to come out of the kitchen. Waiting... More

Popped in for lunch on a Tuesday, was quiet in restaurant. Lovely restaurant with old charm feeling. Waiter didn't have much on so we got 100% attention and service which was a refreshing change to places I've been lately. Kids ordered ribs for $16:50 and a very generous portion staved off hungry teenagers. Salmon stack was just the right size... More

The food - may look overpriced but their menu is outstanding, there is enough for you to choose from. I've had the chicken salad, roast pork (fairly tasteless), wedges, nachos and a few other meals - mostly tasty but otherwise very standard meals. There isn't usually a huge wait- we go most weeks for quiz nights. The service - there... More
