The food at Rata is very good, some dishes are better than that, of course, but overall I fail to see what is so spectacular that this place should be so hyped. Three of us dined there for my friend's birthday, and with the special desert they gave her and overall excellent service by our waiter (Tom)... I can't complain... More

Rata is that rare restaurant that offers a friendly welcome, great service and fabulous food. We were thrilled with our delicious meals. My duck in particular was sensational - it just fell away from the bone. The true surprise was how welcome the 7 year old felt. You don't expect a fine dining restaurant to offer colouring activities. The kids... More

And it was perfect: the staff (although relatively inexperienced IMHO) was very helpful and friendly - the food (we had several bites, the bluff oysters, a few starters and one main to share) terrific and a great wine list with a good European selection next to the NZ ones - would highly recommend and we will be back!

We have eaten in a lot of restaurants all over the world and this would rank in our top 3. Staff very attentive, food was out of this world! I had the duck and my husband and son had the eye fillet. Amazingly big flavours and presentation. Book well in advance though as they don't over book so this ensures... More

This Michelin ranked restaurant turned out to be a great evening out for my husband and me. We had a late (for us) reservation at 8:30pm. We were seated at a nice table by the garden. The interior is modern, with interesting sculptures and an open seating plan, bustling but we could hear ourselves. We had a friendly waiter who... More

the style of the restaurant & the ambience didn't seem to fit the michelin star experience for me. it ws noisey, the staff were dressed casual & there was no table cloth. i thought rata would have been dripping with attention to detail & staff making clients comfortable. the food & wine was excellent but i left feeling a bit... A pretty unassuming restaurant with a great menu and fantastic staff. We had a great meal recently while visiting Queenstown for dinner. Book ahead to avoid disappointment! There are daily specials for dinner which sell out quickly, so get an early table if you can.

Description
Rata is a collaboration between internationally recognised Michelin starred & New Zealand Masterchef judge, Josh Emett and highly regarded local restaurateur, Fleur Caulton. Their company, Mayfare Limited, is fast becoming synonymous in New Zealand for creating genuine dining experiences that are contemporary and inspired.
'Uniquely Southern', Rata takes inspiration from the Southern landscapes and everything that epitomises New Zealand. The decor uses influences from the Otago scenery mixed with modern industrial elements and reclaimed & repurposed vintage items to create a uniquely contemporary and welcoming dining room.
Queenstown's cooler climate lends itself to Josh's love of slow cooked dishes and robust flavours, the discipline of his Michelin star background and that of Executive Chef Chris Scott who
heads up the Rata kitchen, ensures elegant well-balanced and inspired cuisine that always showcases the best of regional and seasonal produce.
The wine list proudly showcases wines from the Otago region and afar with a large selection of wines by the glass to give the diners variety, and match easily with the style of food.
Rata is a relaxed eating-house with a neighbourhood feel, excellent service and exceptional food. Located discreetly away from the hustle and bustle of Queenstown, tucked alongside heritage buildings with several dining spaces perfect for lunch, dinner and casual grazing.
Rata is the ideal place to unwind and enjoy award winning and genuine Southern hospitality.
