The Pig and Tinder Box was one of the first pubs in the New England Region, setting up shop in 1848. Fast-forward 170 years and the "The Pig" is back in the form of a boutique bar meets classic pub. - the brainchild of Chris Cornforth and Fraser Haughton (who bought Orange, NSW its first small bar "Percy's Bar and Kitchen"). The old bank building in the heart of town has been revamped, creating life, character and a sense of action and atmosphere that the beautiful heritage-listed building deserves.

We visited for lunch today. Service was slow and clunky. I think that there were insufficient staff and the place was quite busy. The food was ok but not super special, we expected better really, it took a long time to serve and was delivered...over an extended period so people got their meals at different times. I think that the staff were working very hard in difficult circumstances, they were apologetic and pleasant.More

My partner and I checked in here on Saturday afternoon for a cold beverage and some hot chips. The gentleman who waited on us was lovely; prompt with service and informative. We had such a positive experience that we decided to head back here on...the Saturday evening for dinner. What a nightmare. We had booked for 8pm but were running late so I telephoned ahead to apologise; we were 10 minutes late but were advised it was no problem. From the time we arrived, we were made to feel like we were the biggest pain in the a$$. We ordered one round of drinks and looked over the menu. I ordered the dumplings, my partner ordered the wagyu - asking if he could swap the salad for chips. We were told no but we could order chips extra. No problem; we ordered a bowl of chips with the meal but no salad with the wagyu. When our meals were brought out some time later, salad was served with the wagyu and no chips. We could not get the attention of any of the wait staff. The woman that took our order was out back washing dishes and eating (dinner presumably - yes, everyone needs to eat), the manager (i'm assuming...) was sitting at the end of the bar enjoying a beverage and snacking. The woman who seated us had left, which left one person behind the bar. My dumplings were cold and the dumpling dough chewy. His wagyu was lovely but more rare than medium-rare. I would have loved to have given the feedback but the manager avoided eye contact and there was no one else on the floor. When he came to clear our plates, I advised him to 'hold the chips' as they had obviously been forgotten. He advised he could bring them straight out (even though we had finished our meal). We politely declined. By this time I was so underwhelmed. Not even the amazing service of the barman who was on earlier that afternoon (and now off shift) could make up for this disaster. When the manager asked how the meals were, I told him the dumplings were cold and that it was disappointing to miss the chips with the meal. The manager then had a word with the woman who took our order; who was then obviously made to come and apologise. A very embarrassing experience. Maybe everyone was having a bad day - but it was a pretty poor experience on a whole. I've given 3/5 on account of the great barman in the afternoon and not because the evening manager gave us a lemon, lime and bitters for free (we didn't get a chance to order a second round - no one was interested to take our order). Unfortunately the evening crew weren't on their game.More

Visiting Tamworth on business, this place totally suprised me. It is very rare I say I really enjoyed my meal, but I really enjoyed it. Staff are great, service is excellent, pricing is spot on. I could not find anything which was negative about my...experience. I would recommend this place and will definitely eat here again.More

With a friendly staff and a large menu, there is much to commend about this establishment. Sunday hours are 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and it is always busy

We came across the restaurant whilst strolling through the city and deciding where to have dinner. Turned out to be a great choice, the service was fantastic and friendly, food amazing and all achieved with just two staff front of house! Hope the owner appreciates...this great team.More

Delicious lunch with excellent service. Right in centre of Tamworth is this really interesting place. My lunch was Bao Buns followed by a really good chorizo and chilli chicken linguine. Good wine list, reasonable prices. Will come back next time I am in Tamworth
