Balinese Spice Magic Restaurant and Catering offers an amazing menu of traditional Balinese food at our fully licensed venue in the heart of Wollongong. We use fresh spices in our handmade spices mixes and grind them in a mortar and pestle to unlock the magic flavour and essential oils of the spices in our meals. Had an absolutely delicious meal tonight in Wollongong at Balinese Spice Magic. They were more than happy to work with us to get to a solution that would suit our specific food intolerances and provided great service! Massive shout-out to them. Thank you!

Great Food and Great Service

Great Food and Great Service Authentic Indonesian food with authentic Indonesian Spice levels (if you ask for it). The spicy prawns were especially great. All of the staff were friendly and very efficient. The owner after finding out we were from out of town even suggested a few things for us to do with our daughter during our stay.

Great Balinese food and service

I discovered this place from TA too..we were impressed with everything! Food was so delicious and authentic, I wanted to go back to eat more and more and wish I lived in Wollongong...It is a local restaurant but it was pretty full when we went on Wed night. it is all about great food and warmth hospitality the restaurant has offered and done very well...

Some good, some not so good

Nice ambience and prompt, polite service. The dishes ranged from excellent to disappointing. My BSM Cooler (ginger, lemongrass, coconut sugar, lime and mint) was bland and watery but my partner's pina colada mocktail was delicious. Our two entrees were very good (Sate empol and Pepes jackfruit). My main course (Lawar tempeh and edamame beans) was quite nice but a bit dry. We shared a gado gado and it was really disappointing - very few vegetables, hidden in a rather mushy, unappealing-looking pile of ingredients. Unusually for us, we left half of it uneaten. Prices are reasonable and the staff are efficient and pleasant.

Hello Merilyn, Thank you for your feedback. We will review the BSM cooler recipe and see what we did wrong. The ginger lemongrass drinks are meant to be watery. Re Gado gado. We are serving Balinese version of Gado gado. In Bali we called it tipat cantok. The main ingredients are rice cakes, tofu and tempeh and plenty of peanut sauce. Vegetable is optional. Gado gado and BSM coolers are our regulars favourite. We are trying to be authentic Balinese so we will not change the recipe to be more akin to the Javanese version one which mainly consists of vegetables and egg. We are glad that you get to enjoy Sate Empol and Pepes Jackfruit. Did you try to eat the sugar cane from the empol too? They are from my garden :) We are blessed to be able to grow and access most of our ingredients locally 🌸 Hope we will see you again soon. Please feel free to ask for more veggies on your gado gado if you wish to try that again. Jules

Amazing food

Lovely little restaurant with really nice service. But the food, wow! Amazing! We ate only vegan options and they were all really tasty. I've never seen such a variety of tempehs. We'll be back for sure.

Booked dinner here, maybe my mistake hoping for a little spice. Or maybe ordered the wrong dishes. Unfortunately it wasn’t what was expected, maybe try another more spicy dish next time.

The food at BSM is incredible! One of my favorites in Wollongong. We choose to dine here with friends and family regularly, such lovely welcoming staff and owner. Relaxed, chill vibe. And seriously, the food is just next level!

The best Balinese food!! The GF food! The best for vegetarians - and simply - the best food!

BSM is justly famous as a wonderful Balinese restaurant - and the best restaurant in Wollongong - or anywhere! In part, the fame is because it is highly reliable for gluten free food, and also for wonderful vegetarian and vegan food. However, what makes it magical (apart from the lovely staff led by the amazing Julz who has wonderful stories of her home in Bali, and always looks out for communities to aid)), is that the food is ALWAYS excellent, **always** wonderful. It caters for those with asbestos mouths **and** for those who find milk spicy - and everything in between. Always with kindness and respect - and fabulous food. Balinese curry, vegan rendang, gado gado - r the best lumpia (vegetarian or otherwise.) Or the great vegan (or meatish) combo dishes that would feed an army! The best

The service team are considerate and warm, the kitchen is careful with food requests/allergies and information. Absolutely love the range of gluten free options here. Highly recommend.

Had very high hopes given this rated #5 in Wollongong. Just not that amazing. Rendang was very disappointing, and overpriced. Sadly, can't recommend this place.

Would not allow alcohol free drinks

We had booked for a meal with fr, having been assured that the place was booked, but they would not allow us to drink our alcohol free drinks even though they could not provide an alternative

Food was beautiful would definitely Go back when in Wollongong again. The only thing is down stairs had a bit of a musty smell but just like Bali :)

We have never had Balinese before and we were blown away but this place. The food is sooooo good, our taste buds were having a party. 10 out of 5 stars!!!
