What a gem. I was a bit unsure about this place to start with as it didn’t start well. Despite it being very hot weather I really must want3s some soup and when I ordered it off the menu was told that it was off as weather was too hot. This is fair enough but I was a bit overwhelmed by the exuberance of the staff in telling me that it would be too expensive to change the menu every day. Quite, but perhaps they should put a disclaimer on it explaining that some items may not be available due to the weather. I realised that this exuberance was just the usual Aussie banter which us Brits can find bemusing but this is more our issue than theirs to be honest! Anyway I ordered a salad with chicken and wow I’m so glad I did. It was absolutely delicious and huge, enough to share which I eventually did as was full. If we’d been staying in Launceston longer we would have gone there for lunch everyday. Since our return to the U.K. I’ve even tried to look up the menu to check the ingredients to see if I can recreate it but no luck.

Warm ambiance, gorgeous hosts, great service and always delicious food and coffee 👍😊 right in the heart of Launceston, inside and outside dining, perfect for people watching. Old fashioned china cups/saucers, unique decor that is worth visiting. Our favorite dish is "Calamari Salad" (big call but we agree, the best in the world" but we've only been to 56 countries so far 😉

We popped in here on our way out of Launceston based purely on the reviews. I was super excited to learn EVERYTHING was gluten free!! The coffee was amazing & the gluten free toastie was delicious. I would definitely recommend stopping in here, even if you don’t need gluten free! I was a little sad we wouldn’t be in town longer to allow me time to work through the menu. Even my husband who eats “normal” food was impressed with the toastie! Highly recommend stopping here. Two large coffees & a GF toastie were $22, very well priced!

Average food, had a pulled pork burger which was nice enough. Friend had battered fish and chips, chips were cold which we would have mentioned but staff did not check on us even though they walked passed several times. Seemed to be more interested in entertaining the regulars. We waited around 15 minutes for our plates to be cleared and to be asked about coffee or dessert but never happened. We decided to pay and leave - not once being asked how our meals were, which is pretty poor form.

A must-see for Breakfast in Launceston! Walk into a quirky cafe decorated in spoons. The owner Jason made an instant first impression to our group of six. Without a booking we were welcomed to a menu made for GF/DF tummies without any fuss. We just wish we found the cafe sooner!

We visited here so many times during our Launceston stay for breakkie and lunch. The service was fantastic (management and staff were so lovely) and the food was delicious. Coffee was great and everything being gluten free was also fantastic for someone like me with dietary sensitivities. Must visit!!

My wife is gluten and dairy intolerant and this place was wonderful (she could eat almost everything on the menu without needing to modify it). Service was great, food was tasty (not just "good for gluten free" properly good), staff were personable and knowledgeable. Will return, no question.

Absolutely the best place for a gluten free breakfast!! We were welcomed by friendly staff and an atmosphere that truly whisked us back in time. The place was clean and our table upstairs had a picturesque view of the busy street below. The coffee was beautiful (although could’ve been a little hotter) and very reasonably priced! All complimented by the most amazing food! We had eggs benedict on salmon and a half serve of the fried chicken waffles with bacon and maple syrup (just as well too as it was extremely filling!) the service was quick and the food was lovely and fresh (with the best gf fried chicken and waffles I’ve ever had!). Don’t miss this place when visiting Launceston - it’s well and truly the best.

This place is FANTASTIC do yourself a favour and go for breakfast especially if you are Celiac or have an intolerance Samuel Pepys is the best!!. The coffee is Devine one of the best Almond Lattes I’ve had. We went 3 times in 4 days for breakfast and that’s only because they are closed on Monday’s. Their GF bread is delicious and it’s hard to tell it’s Gluten Free seriously!!!. We had the Big Breakfast and The Beans with a poached Egg and OMG. Their Hash Browns are house made and amazing and the sausage yummy. Do your self a favour and Go go go!! Even if you aren’t Celiac you won’t regret it. Oh I almost forgot to mention how great the host where as well really top notch couple. Thanks again.

Lunched here, pleasantly surprised with the eclectic decor, upstairs and down in a busy street with interesting outlook. Staff really friendly and helpful, chatty. Food selection was excellent for those who do not tolerate gluten. Mushies were a little watery, could be cooked over a higher heat for less time. Tasty though.

We had 2 families of four with 3 teen age boys and managed to satisfy them all. All of our breakfasts were very nice, my son still raves about the KFC chicken and waffles. The service was very friendly making you feel right at home. We sat upstairs where there was plenty of room. The coffee was very good also. I would recommend this restaurant to everyone especially families. $205.00 to feed 8 people. The Local tea was a hit as well.

We were a group of 10 women out for a weekend away and had booked here for a 10.30 breakfast. We were all up and ready to go early so we rang the restaurant to ask if it would be possible to fit us in an hour earlier. We stressed that if it was inconvenient in any way then we would be happy to keep our original booking. We were advised that it would be fine. When we arrived we were asked to order as quickly as possible, which we did. We all had just finished our breakfast when, I assume the owner, came to us and very patronisingly told us we needed to learn a thing or two about how kitchens work and how difficult we made it for everyone in the kitchen because we arrived early. I told him we had rung and checked and were told it was all fine to come in early. It was obvious that this man was in a very bad mood and felt the need to take out his temper tantrum on us, his valuable customers. I have heard since then that this is not the first time this has happened. Needless to say, we will never return and would not recommend going and being dressed down by a man that can’t control his bad mood.

We had already eaten st Sweetbrew & Bryher both located opposite to Samuel Pepys Cafe, so we thought we would try Samuel Pepys to see if it could match the other two. Unfortunately it didn't match up. It's larger than Bryher and Sweetbrew and has an upstairs seating area with quite a lot of space. This place could really do well, but as it is, it's just an average cafe. Don't bother, simply cross the road to Bryher or Sweetbrew, both are fantastic.

We stumbled across the best place for breakfast in Launceston quiet by accident. But what a wonderful find. The staff were friendly knowledgeable and very welcoming. We ordered the Bacon and eggs ( cooked perfectly) and the house made fruit toast that was delicious. The cafe decor is an added bonus and a delightful talking piece during breakfast. Highly recommend even if it’s just to pop in the grab a coffee.
