The food was pretty good and there was a wide variety of choices. Wide range of beer and wines. Bear in mind that you need to order and pay at the bar, rather than from your table.

A lovely place to sit for lunch and just watch the people going about their days. We sat outside, protected from the breeze and traffic noise by the glass screens. The pulled pork baguette was rather delish as was my partners chicken schnitzel wrap. The bar staff were friendly and added to a lovely meal.

Golden City Hotel apart from an extra 10 percent added to the bill not mentioned anywhere combined with a long wait for your meal when the restaurant is over half full was a good experience and dessert was delicious. We were there whilst passing through and did have to send the Latte’s because if they were any stronger the spoon... More

This place is popular, and satisfies most appetites. By that I mean if you just feel like coffee and cake, or a hearty winter soup, or a well cooked steak ,you can find it here. The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and anything in between. The wine list is something which is small, however adequate. I would... More

Seriously disappointed and especially as we had a friend from Melbourne with us. We had always recommended this place to friends when they come to visit the gallery. We won't again Last nights meals was poor. The 200g fillet steak special was under cooked, the mushroom mash was revolting to look at and the potato mash was dry. My husband... More

Went for a late lunch. We had the trio of dips and warmed turkish bread for entree to share, followed by the grilled barramundi and a pizza for main. The serving of dips and turkish bread was generous and delicious. The barramundi cooked to perfection, the skin so crispy I nearly asked for a steak knife to cut it. The... More

I have been dining at GCs on Tuesday nights for a while. Their $20 Tuesday night deal includes a main (choice from around 12 dishes) and a drink. Their Tuesday night meals are substantial, delicious and great value.

Very busy and the food was OK for pub grub (7 out of 10 for the chicken parma). We booked a table on a very warm and humid night. They had air conditioners but had the doors open and fans barely moving. I was happy the food came relatively quickly and we could eat and leave. Hotel looks great on... More

We frequently visit 'GCs' for coffee and cake of an evening. Cake and slice selection is decent, marsbar cheese cake is a personal fav! They also offer a large selection of breakfast lunch and dinner

Description
The Golden City Hotel, formally known as Geecees, was built in 1856 and originally named the Adelphi Hotel. Since it's first opening the hotel has seen many changes including the transformation to a cafe-bar in December 1996. Overlooking the beautiful tree lined main street of Ballarat, Golden City is renowned for having one of the largest restaurants hosting around 200 tables. We no longer see ourselves as a traditional hotel, but have moved with the times to provide a comfortable, safe environment where persons of any age can enjoy a coffee, wine or beer together with good affordable food available all day. The hotel offers two beautiful event spaces of varying sizes and design and caters for anything from intimate and private gatherings to large celebrations.
