I have been here several times in recent weeks for drinks, pre and post meetings and like the atmosphere. I would describe the vibe as a combo of pub/baronial/modern but it works. Each time I have been it has been quiet although I suspect it might be rather busy and noisy when full. Staff are friendly and attentive and its... More

We went on a Saturday evening at 6:30pm and the place was vacant. As I recalled some less than favorable reviews recently I started to wonder if I had made a mistake. Wrong! It was superb! We shared 1/2 doz. tempura (NZ $18.50) as a starter...excellent with a very light batter I had the Killer Prawn (NZ$34.) as a main.... More

Excellent food and service. This place has a nice ambiance and always a good place for a prawn dish and a couple of beer.

Extremely disappointed. We asked at our hotel for a great seafood restaurant and she recommended Killer Prawn. Homemade bread with balsamic vinegar and olive oil - it was garlic bread with the oil and vinegar dip, just does no go together. Either make it garlic bread or make it bread and dip. The menu was overpriced and boring. Won't be... More

We went out to this iconic restaurant some years ago, the place was jumping and was probably the pick of any restaurants in Whangarei. Great atmosphere, grunty interior and great food and service. Our visit a couple of weeks ago was somewhat disappointing. It appeared that this establishment, after a change of management, is more focused on the bar trade... More

Started our night out with a entree/bar snack. Walked in and ordered from the bar and sat in the bar area. Took our drinks with us, and got served fairly quickly. Oysters were yummy and went down fast, the wedges were a huge serving, to much for two people as a entree. The topping was very disappointing and they had... More

Service is still attentive, friendly and helpful but the food has deteriorated. Tempura prawns and oysters are still great but the fish was overcooked and the chicken salad was yuk. Disappointed, ill return ONLY when we want the tempura seafood.

He really enjoyed our lunch of fresh mussels with two different sauces- both were delicious. Easy to find in Town Basin.
