During our travels in New Zealand we dined at three different Speight's Ale Houses (Dunedin, Greymouth and Queenstown). While the menu of all three restaurants is similar, and you can find a wonderful menu of fresh seafood dishes, burgers and light appetizers, we found the service and ambience at this Speight’s location to be the best. The menu makes suggestions... More

Famished and in desperate need of lunch, I was happy to find Speight's Ale House right across the street from the station. Cordially greeted, I was seated right away. Menu offers numerous options - most along the pub fare genre. I had seafood chowder and a green salad. Simple, but appetizing. Food came quickly and was better than I expected... More

friendly service to show us to our table. menu looked good - friendly waitress brought our first and main course quickly and chatty. However the main course smoked chicken parcel, I was hard put to find the chicken, think I found a small slice and a slice of bacon, the vegetables were hard and cold. I made the best of... More

Stopped for lunch lured by the inviting tables and umbrellas out front. Its a grand old building with loads of character and charm right on the river. Partner ordered a seafood medley, beautifully presented variety of seafood. I ordered sausages and mash. The sausages were huge but really delicious so I ate the lot, but couldnt finish the mountain of... More

Have eaten here a couple of times now and enjoyed the food each time. My ribs this visit were excellent! The servings are VERY generous so don't snack first and don't order sides! Menu items can be modified (swap salad for veges etc) without a problem. We all enjoyed our meals very much.

This place was recommended by our tour guide and it was quite impresseve. It was an attractive building and a pleasnt interior. The service was good and very efficient. Both the food and the choice of beers were very good and we were pleased with our meal.

A great building and some good beers. Good TVs for the sport and atmosphere not bad. The waitresses were nice enough but the Manager seemed a bit to be on a bit of a downer. Now....the food. My wife had the Fish and Chips - too very very small bits of fish and undercooked chips for about $30. She did... More
