We visit Hastings every two or three years and have been including either lunch or dinner at this restaurant as a treat for the last ten years. As usual we were not disappointed with our recent dinner. The steak was so tender you barely needed a knife. A very enjoyable evening with very friendly and efficient staff.

LOVE Vidals! Our meals were perfect, service pretty great. Steak was UNBELIEVABLE as has been every time we have been. Our only slight grizzle is the breads. The dips/spreads are absolutely tasteless! There were 3 wee bowls and in them... We had cauliflower purée... no taste at all, olive oil ... and that's it, no balsamic in it, no dukka... More

Four of us for lunch. Spacious interior; nice sunny outdoor area. We sat inside. I went with the three course set menu $29.50. Three of us opted for that. We ordered wine. I had a Vidal Pinot Noir. Very smooth and enjoyable. $12 per glass. Starter: Garlic poached prawns with pineapple and corn salsa. I was unsure of this dish... More

The food and service here was exceptional. My friends chose this restaurant for a very special dinner and the staff did not let us down. Plenty of parking out front and no problem with wheel chair access. The wine list is expansive with some great options by the glass. We shared the chilli calamari with asian greens and it was... We went to lunch here end of April. We were able to sit out in the sun. All four of us were very impressed with our delicious food.

Our group of 6 hadn't booked and arrived late for lunch on a Friday - but nothing was a problem. The meal was just fabulous - especially the John Dory which was enjoyed by a number of our group. Wine selection is very good - with some older vintages being available.

We go here quite often and the food is always amazing! The waiting staff could be a bit friendlier, sometimes it feels like they hate their job.

The chef has to be commended. Another amazing meal. Had the award winning steak meal and couldn't fault it. Always enjoy a meal here when I am in the Hawkes Bay. Can't wait to come back again and try another meal.

My party was very disappointed with the Vidal experience which included: Constant flicking away of fly’s, despite the restaurant being located inside Very noisy atmosphere (poor acoustics), so holding a conversation was very difficult Wine on menu different to wine served at table Starter arriving without its main ingredient Meat not cooked to requested level Side dish arriving 15 minutes...
