What a hidden gem this small restaurant is just off the main square high up in Arronches. Only seven dishes scribbled on a small blackboard. The friendly waiter talks us through the options. We choose the house special and local favourite pigs cheeks, mexican eggs...with smokey chorizo and the most expensive dish on the menu Fresh cod Wellington. The waiter warns us that the cod Wellington will take slightly longer to prepare, about 30 minutes, but we have all the time in the world. The cheeks and the eggs are very nice, rustic dishes which go well with the potent tinto of the house. The cod Wellington is a true masterpiece. Crispy pastry, succulent fish wrapped in cured ham and creamy fresh spinach in garlic. Hands down the best dish we ever had in Portugal. The old lady in the kitchen knows her magic. The sweet smell of two cigars the table next to us adds to the nostalgic satisfaction while nipping the cortado.More
Excellent local food for a reasonable price.
The owner will do his best for translating the handwritten menu on the blackboard for you into English.
He recommend the "cheek of a pig", which was really excellent.
Highly recommended, if you stop in Arronches!
We went there for a quick meal and what a surprise. Excellent honest and comfort food, very traditional!
The service (Luís) is very helpful. We are traveling to see birds, and Luis is well informed about the nature. He has a tourism degree, so if...you need any extra local info, contacts, he is your guy.
Also take a chance to learn more about the real Rolling Stones! Have fun!More
