They were happy to seat us as walk-ins for dinner, and greatly enjoyed the meal. Fresh, tasty produce and such a unique restaurant space- plenty to look at and admire while enjoying our meal. The Avalon had a great feel to it, we all enjoyed our visit. Attentive and friendly wait staff helped the relaxed feel. Cocktail bar looked worth... More

Booked relatively last minute with few expectations. Fantastic Ambience / amazing Art Deco furnishing. Jazz Dacquarie Band Playing - brilliant. So few live music venues in Sydney. Food and wine good - and well priced but Ambience the winner of the night!!

Thank you Avalon for a great night! Im so glad we decided to venture up the stairs of the beautiful old theatre and found this place. We instantly fell in love with the quirky art deco atmosphere. The restaurant was booked out so we sat in the wine bar section where we enjoyed delicious snacks, cocktails and wine. The lovely... More

Discovering this place is part of the experience. Down at the old theatre foyer is the menu which may or may not tempt you...reserve judgement only after you have gone up the stairs! The place is an art deco wonderland, with staff attired accordingly in period dress. (Which we guess is somewhere between the 1920's and 40's). The food is... More

We went here for dinner after a long day walking around katoomba and some of the blue mountains attractions. The food was really well prepared and served, with the menu combinations really well thought out. We all loved the 50's style Art Deco theme and the Passionfruit Mohito is a must! The entree sizes were will suited to the main,... More

Hi Mick, Thanks for the great review. We're really happy that you had a great time at Avalon. Regarding the music, we do have background music playing but sometimes it gets drowned out by the noise in the room. It's a constant process of turning it up and down all night! Thanks for pointing it out for our attention though.... More

We spent three weeks in Katoomba on holiday from UK and staying in a local rental house. The Avalon was recommended to us and didn't disappoint. Located in an old cinema the restaurant is in what was the upper circle and retains much of its charm. The food was excellent; beautifully cooked and well presented and was tasty on each... More

Our easter sunday lunch could not have been better. Shared springrolls very tasty, shared garlice bread best garlic bread ever. The mains of beef fillet was just perfection with the horseradish, the other main ordered was the veal again delicious. Generous meal size. Will return to many times to try out the rest of the menu. Service I found to... More

We stumbled across this restaurant and went in as it's Art Deco caught our attention. We were taken aback by the great ambiance. The food was fantastic! We didn't get a photo of our main but it was so so good. Had their specialty desert and was thoroughly impressed.

We made a reservation based on Trip Advisor reviews and were very disappointed. The food was mediocre at best - maybe it's time to change the menu. The server was very nice, but offered no advice on food choices and seemed a bit clueless. The decor was cute, but we are all about the food and it just didn't deliver.... More

Set in the historic Savoy picture theatre building, AVALON Restaurant and Bar at Katoomba combines playful art-deco charm with hearty food, friendly service and spectacular Blue Mountains views. Located on main street Katoomba, enter the historic Savoy picture theatre foyer and make your way past the ticket booth and up the stairs. The restaurant inhabits the dress circle of the old theatre, and offers a decor of quirky retro finds and spectacular mountain views over Leura and the Jamison Valley. Meals are prepared in the old projection room, and cocktails and retro tunes are served in the former refreshment lounge, now a cosy bar complete with roaring fireplace. The art deco architecture is complemented by an eclectic collection of furnishings and artwork. The style of service is casual and friendly. Licensed and BYO wine.
