I visited this place last week with my family and friends. We tasted a lot of dishes and no one was tasteful! The worst goulash I ever ate at someplace. Each side dish was not included in price of dish itself. Over priced!!! Musicians playing inside asked for beer.I bought to them one round but their request was not pleasant for... More

Dear Guest, We are sorry that our meals could not fit to your taste. About the side dish, there it is on the menucard that the sides are not included in the meal, and it is because there are people who only would like to have the meal itself, or does not like the side dish wich is traditionelly fits... Impossible to visit Budapest without visiting Buda castle and to crown that, in summer, with a pleasant lunch on a sunny terrace. Just beyond the toursit traps or nearly so you may find the Black Raven. I tried a traditional beef goulash there - on a visit of only half a day I wanted to taste the national dish. The... More

Dear Guest, Thank you for your kind words. Each are a compliment for us all. There are two wines, that you can have by the glass in our restaurant, but from these two you might have the Cabernet Savignon of Mayer winery. All the best, Team Black Raven More

We found the food to be good and the wine delicious. The waiter was very efficient and friendly. The prices were a little higher than in other restaurants we had eaten in but then this place is in a very touristy area. My granddaughter enjoyed the violinist in the 3 men band (she is learning to play the fiddle).

apart from the relatively atmospheric environment, the food wasn't even mediocre. one of the worst goulash plates with beef pieces full of fat, rice that was sticky and microwave heated and hungarian style steaks that were tasteless. there was a live band who tried to sell their cd. Too expensive for no reason.

We were in the Holy Trinity Square area on a cold windy day and decided to take time for a nice sit-down lunch. We found this "Black Raven Restaurant" and were warmly greeted. The menu and atmosphere were quite authentic. We were pleased with our lunch choices. The live music and good Hungarian wine made for a complete experience.

The food was faultless. Smoked trout and salad, so fresh. Beef Budapest style was amazing, especially as I love offal which was in the stew accompany this. Then very greedily had a platter of hungarian cheeses. Added to this was a string trio who played some wonderful hungarian music, and some themes from the movies. The rest of the family... More

My wife and I went in here at lunchtime. A very traditional interior. The waiter gave us the full menu card-- we had to ask for the lunch card menu. The soups were thin and tasteless. My wife had a chicken paprika and pasta--again tasteless! I had a Wiener schnitzel which was ok.Both desserts were unremarkable. Would never go there... More

We came to this restaurant by accident - walking through the old town in snowy weather, cold and had a look inside because determined by the sign - there should be local cuisine. We were right, it was what we wanted. Very nice interior. The hall is decorated in traditional style - wooden tables, decoration, nice, even homemade Christmas decorations.... More

We were really hungry and we just chose the closest restaurant that looked traditional. Don't ever do that. It turned out that: the menu was really hard to read, with close to no real details in the content of the dishes. The waiter spoke no English, so that was not much help either. The prices were spicy and completely not... More

Dear Guest! I am sorry about, you did not pick the right meal for yourself. It can happened, that you do not like the sweet&meat combination, but most of our guests like it, by the way this meal (the stuffed turkeybrest with chestnuts and sourcherry sause) is one of their favourites! So I would ask you not to overreakt and say nobody sould... More

We walked in off the street and were seated next to an American family who were interacting with the band playing traditional Hungarian gypsy music. The family seemed highly delighted with the musicians and kept requesting song after song I kept eyeballing my family to say 'lets leave' but by then the usual bread and water had been delivered so... Dear Guest! Thank you for your review. The language of the menu card was translated from hungarian used in the past. Staying in District I / Buda

Neighbourhood Profile
District I / Buda
The historical center to a city with a multifarious and intricate past, Buda has some of the most outstanding buildings in Europe and an enviable natural landscape with stunning views onto the Danube. Centered around the Royal Palace, it provides a glimpse into the golden years of the Austro-Hungarian empire and the lives led by the aristocracy at the time. Matthias Church, beside the palace, hosted many events attended by the royal family and was the chosen place for the coronation of Franz Josef, one of the Hungarian Habsburg kings. Having admired the palace and the church, a visit to Buda will be unforgettable by the stunning and memorable panorama over Pest offered by the seven towered Fishermen’s Bastion.
