We went here based on location and the recommendation from a tour book we were using. It was okay. The food was okay. The service was okay. Portion sizes weren't huge, had to order rice separately, but I've run into that before. The desert my sister ordered definitely want what she was expecting. My dish was quite hot, which I... More

Popped in because the restaurant looked nice from the outside. We ordered an appetizer of deep fried vegetables which arrived with mint sauce and mango chutney which in itself was not that bad. For main course my brother and i specifically asked our waiter about a dish advertised for 2 people and whether if it was enough for the two... More

Greeting was lukewarm at best. We eventually managed to order beer, after establishing which they actually did have available. On ordering food they had no fish available at all - if we had known this on arrival we would not have stayed. Our very dry popadoms arrived with the news that they had also run out of pickles. The meals... More

I visited Shalimar with family and friends for lunch on a cold day. Paneer Naan, Lachha Parantha and chicken bhuna were very tasty. Paneer butter masala was ordinary like you find in most of Indian restaurants in Europe. Staff was very friendly and quick. They even provided us password of the wireless (don't quote me for this ;) ). Quality... More

What a surprise to find exellent indian food with an extensive menu and very helpful staff with spot on suggestions. I are in many cities in India and this was up to par. We had Papak Paneer and butter chicken and vegetables dishes, with naan and roti. All excellent.

The place itself is not very fancy but the food is excellent, always fresh and tasty. I've been there many times, and it has never disappointed me. Many options for vegetarians. Fresh paneer naan is fantastic. One of the best Indian restaurants in Budapest.

I will never go back to this place. I went with my girlfriend and since we saw only 2 guests dinning we thought that we will get the food with no major delays. WRONG. We were WAITING ONE HOUR to get the food. At that time, I decided to TAKE IT AWAY since I was asking the waiter 3 times... More

Shalimar is a nice Indian restaurant tucked away in Budapest. The food is authentic Indian and both the vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes are very nice. The thalis are very nice and also the inclusion of soups to add a Hungarian touch is well received.

Unanimously acclaimed for its curries and tandoories, the Shalimar has over a decade and a half long history in entertaining Indian food lovers from far and wide. Handpicked ingredients account for the Shalimar's unequalled flavours, with its tandoor lending the various meats, vegetables and breads a distinctly smoke-infused aroma and a succulent or fluffy, consistency. Soothing Indian music will set the pace to your royal feast in an upmarket Indian atmosphere blended with a trendy feel.

Neighbourhood Profile
District VII / Jewish Quarter
District VII is the very heart of Budapest and houses the city’s Jewish Quarter. Its streets are lively and colorful, its buildings narrate different histories in an assortment of architectural styles, and its cafes and bars are frequented and loved by the enthusiastic crowds. Grand and magnificent, the striking star of the district is the Great Synagogue, the largest in Europe and one of the biggest in the world. Distinctly Moorish in style, crowned by the twin onion shaped domes, the Synagogue is the very emblem of District VII and one of the main attractions in the capital.
