Passed this resto randomly when I was confused for lunch from the office, there was a guy handling me the leaflet so being a newcomer in Budapest, hence I give it a go. The location is at super touristy place, packed with foreigners and intl brands. However this place has quite old looking marine style (Jules Verne, duh?) but unique.... More

Food is nothing special. Rude waitresses/owners. Compulsory service charge despite clearing stating "no service charge" at the entrance.

We decided to give this restaurant a go. We were served quickly enough but not even a cloth in the table I had. The food was not great at all. Just ok. When we asked for the bill they brought a handwritten paper with a 10% service charge. We asked it to be removed and explained we didn't enjoy the... More

I found about this place reading in the internet by chance. You will find it at the end of Vaci Utca not far from the central Market. During the summer it is only a pretty garden for a drink or food but not something special that you cannot miss- to be honest. However, at the basement which is unfortunately open... More

on the street they have a Spanish guy handing out flyers with menu AND photos of some dishes on. you decide to enter and they bring you a menu AND an A5 format "book" with photos of the food they have. the same photos that are on the flyer just bigger. you don't pay attention if there's a small print... As we are interrailing through Europe we decided to treat ourselves to a 3 course meal known as 'set menu C'. The first warning signs were the empty restaurant with a strange aroma around the water fountain. We knew we had made a mistake when the included beer was in a tiny glass. The soup starter was nice, then after... More

We had dinner tonight at the Verne Hungarian restaurant and it was very good. The courtyard inside is a pleasant and cool break from the hot pedestrian walkway. My wife had Margarita pizza and I had spaghetti Bolognese which was excellent. Biggest plus was our total Bill with service charge was 12 Euros. Excellent value for what we ordered.

I didn't choose the restaurant because it was based on Jules Verne, but was a bit charmed by the decor. We ordered a pizza and it was decent. The service was average, as well. Soccer fans will be happy with their giant television.

A lovely garden setting just off one of the main streets, we just had to try a traditional Hungarian dinner. So started with what else but Goulash soup, which was wonderful, although quite filling! And for main course we tried the beef stew with Gnocchi, which again was delicious and very filling. Finally, for dessert we had the Gundel pancake.... More

Neighbourhood Profile
District V / Inner City
Discover the Inner City along the banks of the Danube, with its fashionable shops and iconic buildings. The Inner-City Parish Church and St. Stephen’s Basilica stand out as two of the finest examples of architecture in the area. If you are still hunting for more historical treats, then the ruins of the medieval city walls on Kecskeméti Utca are a must-visit while the Soviet War Memorial is also worthy of attention and relevant to Hungary’s more recent history. If shopping is on your itinerary, then be prepared: the market squares in this area are an absolute delight, particularly during the Christmas period, but even throughout the year you’ll find the latest trends in the shops on Vaci Utca.
