Got an early Saturday reservation, had time to get a drink at the the new bar in the old F. Scott Fitzgerald space. Sean is a world class bartender (40 years experience!) - this new space is great with great drinks well prepared (had the...More

Intimate place and food was delicious. Nice wine list. Be aware that there are several dining rooms, and that there are steep stairs to many of them. I thought it added to the ambiance. NOTE: If walking, do NOT take M Street to 36th Street....More

I visited 1789 for the first time during Restaurant Week. Normally not my style of eatery, but considered "worth the price," I thought it'd be worth visiting during Restaurant Week so I could decide if it was worth returning to for other meals in the...More

The "antique" branding of this restaurant nearly made me want to go round the room inspecting the prints to see if they were real lithographs or modern copies. The food was good but not excellent and the prices were sky-high even for DC. We won't...More

There is one (1) -- ONE -- fabulous room with a fireplace filled with happy diners looking cozy and fulfilled. Then, there are numerous other rooms you may be taken to -- including some up the stairs (with no elevator offered for the disabled). I...More

The restaurant has a fabulous ambiance. The service was amazing with just the right amount of attention. The food, especially the duck, was perfect. Salad to start was also great and was just the right size! Highly recommended!!

Though 1789 is rated as one of DC's top restaurants, I think it must top rated for tourists. It is an interesting antique building. Food was good, but not outstanding. Portions are tiny. Tiny servings of "amuse bouche" were a nice touch after we ordered....More

1789 is a true five star restaurant - I used this headline to emphasize how disappointed I was their apple dessert is now a new wave, foo foo thing unworthy of the restaurant. Other than that a great meal with even better service. I was...More

Great atmosphere in a pleasant historic building. I have never had a better pasta in the us (I am a true Italian) and the duck was phenomenal! Well done!

Very nice place, charming, not many tables, elegant decoration, service to the details. Octupus with porkbelly is a must! The duck has a great flavor! Very good list of wines by glass.

I had no jacket, but most men did. And, the restaurant was a bit cold. I must add that the food was really mediocre, so I would recommend against going, no matter how you're dressed.
