I search for good sakana, when I travel. I like it fresh and well (skillful, artful, clean, tasty) prepared) whether is sushi, sashimi, rolls or nigiri sushi. When I go to a place that seems trustworthy and with good ratings, I really enjoy putting the whole gastronomic experience in the hands of the chef. I don't even look at the... More

Although it doesn't look like much from the outside it is well worth popping in for some sushi. They don't have a huge range but what they do have is always excellent. Fresh and served at the right temperature (not too cold). The warm sake is always a welcome addition to any meal and the service is efficient if not... More

The sushi here is very good. Very reasonably priced rolls, fast service, cozy atmosphere. I ordered an eel avocado roll, a bagel roll, and salmon nigiri. While the nigiri is a little overpriced, the rolls are very neat, evenly cut, nice presentation. 6 pieces per roll. Quite filling. The only reason this place didn't get 5 stars is because the... This is a Japanese restaurant typical of those outside Japan - it has all types of food such as tempura, sushi and ramen. I walked in on a Wednesday night without reservation and was seated at the counter where I had a chance to see the chefs at work making sushi. I ordered the sushi set. The service was fast... More

Really loved our family meal at Sakana few nights ago. We had a mix of sushi and other dishes and all of them were exquisite. We sat out for hours and ate loads and topped off with ginger ice cream and mochi. Service was a bit slow but it was a Friday night and quite busy.

You want to eat decent sushi with decent price, Sakana at DuPont circle is the place to go, especially if you work or live in the area. It is not the place that you must seek out to go unless you happen to be in the vicinity. I frequented this place numerous times in the past many years. The food... More

I have been dining at Sakana since I moved to Washington, D.C. twenty years ago. During that time, many restaurants on this stretch of P Street, including many sushi restaurants, have come and gone. Sakana and across-the-street neighbor Obelisk are the only restaurants that remain. What is Sakana doing right? No doubt the restaurant owes its longevity in part to... More

The sushi was good, I think it was a very good value. The restaurant itself is a little bit of a hole in the wall and kinda out of the way, but I enjoy places like that. I liked that they didn't rush us and basically left us to ourselves.

This restaurant featured bad Japanese food and the prices were terrible, the bento box had very little sashimi and the tempera's batter was way overdone. The chicken kebab was very greasy and they had this weird egg and purple thing with some disgusting coleslaw. Would not recommend. Although this I guess is ok if you never had things in Japan...
