I was a bit apprehensive about The Monocle after reading some of the other reviews for it. But we went anyway because it was close to our hotel, and it seemed to offer pretty decent value for the food offered. Correct on both counts - a nice walk across to the restaurant, and excellent food at a very decent price... More

While touring the Capitol, we found this great restaurant between the Senate office buildings and Union Station. The steak salad blue was a great choice for lunch. The teens liked the cheeseburgers. The atmosphere here is comfortable and classy. I really enjoyed our visit.

I just came back from lunch at the Monocle. This is the second time I've had lunch there and it won't be my last. The menu is simple but you can't go wrong with anything you order here. I'm usually a picky eater and this is actually one of the better restaurants in DC. You are first greeted warmly at... More

The ambiance is incredible. Fun to think about the political conversations that have taken place over the years. The food and service were terrific. The vegetarian pasta was tasty and filling!

Good food, nothing too special. Greek waiters can be fun. I have always seen someone, most recent trips were John Boehner and Ted Cruz. Food is steakhouse.

There's old-school cool, and then there's just old. Hate to say it, but The Monocle has kind of fallen into the latter category. It has great history (est. 1960) and a super location (Senate side), but the food is only average. Terrific atmosphere and wonderful service, but maybe a better place to have a happy hour cocktail than dinner. But... More

This restaurant has been around more than 50 years. The Monocle is the closest restaurant to the U.S. Capitol building and Union Station and provides a delightful dining experience. The staff was friendly and attentive. The food was delicious.

We dropped in without a booking and managed to get a table on a Thursday evening. All staff were excellent. Food was terrific and the wine list really good. Not a cheap place to eat BUT excellent value for a classy meal. We will go back

Sit a the bar or a table for the most wonderful experience of great food and service. The menu has something for everyone and the prices are very affordable. There is also a great bar menu. The Host and Joel the bartender will bend over backwards to make everyone feel as though they have been regulars for ever. A great... More

This is a "great institution" with a lot of history and atmosphere. The manager and staff were absolutely the best in terms of service. Food was excellent. Definitely worth another visit.
