I am not new to Ethiopian and Eritrean food and there are a lot of choices in the DC area. But, I've never eaten at this restaurant and thought I'd try. It was some of the best Ethiopian food I've eaten! While Ethiopian menus are all fairly similar (at least, to my unstudied eye), the veggies were very diverse and... More

We have been to Etete innumerable times and every time came out feeling great. One thing that has attracted us to this restaurant is the near-original tez (honey wine). Unfortunately it was not available during this visit. The food, perhaps, did not seem to taste the same - perhaps a change of chef? Nevertheless, this is a likeable restaurant and... More

I took my husband here for dinner on his birthday because I was told they have excellent vegetarian options. We ordered a beef dish and a vegetarian and were asked if we want to share so we said yes. We were served with a giant scoop of meet surrounded my a very few amount of vegetables. Of course as my... More

Etete is not just a place to grab a bite to eat! Etete is a destination within DC to experience Ethiopian hospitality and cuisine! The platters of vegetable dishes and meat dishes were spot on and so very flavorful! The wine list is pretty good for a smallish sized restaurant. And the service is absolutely amazing! From the moment we... More

Fish was awesome! Suggested by a friend it turned out to be the best Ethiopian place in DC I dined in. Make sure you make reservations if you go on weekends. Expect no privacy :-) sitting arrangement is cramped. Got to eat Ethopian when in DC! Also they have their own paid parking.

Having lived in Ethiopia for two years, I am always on a search for great Ethiopian food. With Etete, a small, family-owned restaurant is a Washington gem. Located on the U Street corridor/Shaw next to Nellie's Bar, this place checks all of the blocks. When you enter, you immediately smell the mixture of amazing spices that make Ethiopian food what... Located in the U Street & Shaw Neighborhood of Washington D.C., this neighborhood is the hub for local cuisine and nightlife. In this historic neighborhood lies cozy and homely Etete. You must try the famous Wat and Injeria this meal is one of the staples of Ethiopian cuisine. Also par take in the Honey Wine, its good.

After researching Ethiopian restaurants ahead of my trip to DC I planned on visiting Etete for their menu options and reasonable pricepoint. The restaurant is located in a lively section of town with bars, cafes, and other nightlife. I walked in, greeted, and was seated w/out reservation although there was only one table left. I started with the sambusa appetizer.... More

Three of us tried this restaurant for dinner. We sat in the window space which added to the authenticity - wicker table & chairs. Vegetarian dish for two, Sambusta like Indian Samosa and fish. Warm welcome, delicious fresh food, good value. Would definitely return.
