When travelling on Hyway 191 and stopping in the small village of Alpine, in Northern Arizona, you would not expect to find any sophisticated or gourmet diner, but at least a place serving good and honest American food. I have to admit that the Bear...More

Have you EVER had Apricot pie? I'm over 60 and just had my first, but not last, slice of Apricot pie at Bear Wallow Inn, heated...a bit, and accompanied by that single scoop of vanilla. Service was great, the waitresses, though at end of shift...More

Alpine is nothing special but getting there is a beautiful trip. After looking over the lunch opportunities on opposite sides of the street, Bear Wallow seemed looked like the better choice. The name pretty well describes the inside atmosphere. Service was prompt and friendly; however...More

If all you want is pie come here. The rest of the food is ordinary. The decor is pleasant. The service is okay, but the cellphone policy is a bit heavy handed.

We stopped for breakfast but I couldn't resist a bowl of green sauce chili. Best ever. Ever, ever. The owner had a lot of pride; she's owned the place for 26 years. Great service, lots of locals and great food.
