Average American bar but with more whiskey choices than you can likely handle! They have wonderful signature cocktails as well, give the menu a once over and try something you've never had before!

They make the best Mac 'n Cheese which is made with four different cheeses. It's great for sharing since it's so rich. They also have a great burger that is thick and juicy.

We arrived on a Friday night without a reservation we put our name on the list and went around the corner for a drink. We received a text in about 15 minutes letting us know our table was ready. Our waiter was very knowledgeable when it came to the whiskey and made great recommendations. We had the Brussels sprouts and... More

Excellent quality farm to table style menu, great drinks and a nice ambiance. It all falls apart however when your greeting at the door with undeserved arrogance and an apparent lack of understanding that the people walking through the door are well paying customers. This has been my experience on enough occasions that I won't be going back.

Amercan oak in Alameda is a perfect spot for dinner and drinks. Its a little pricey at times but the quality is there. You get a hip cool atmosphere with out being snobby. Its great for a first date.

My husband and I ate here on a recent visit to Alameda. We visit Alameda a few times a year, and always eat at Speisekammer. We decided to try something new this trip. Mistake. The food at American Oak was fine. My fried chicken sandwich was tasty enough, if a little soggy. My husband ordered the Kobe beef burger, which... More

My wife and I ate at American Oak last night, our first time since it re-opened after a fire. In our previous visit, we found the food at a sort of "eh" level, nothing particularly terrible, nothing particularly great. They delivered a good upscale hamburger, roasted Brussels Sprouts dripping with way too much oil, and pretty much shouting "we're about... More

Excellent! We went for a late night light dinner on 10/30/14. Started with a couple of fancy non-alcohol drinks & they were super! This place is totally about whiskeys & bourbons so there was a huge selection of those for those who enjoy them. We had a few items from the menu like the pear salad, brussel sprouts, house made... The food and drinks are great. And the atmosphere is usually vibrant but not too loud. But the service is very uneven. Management needs to gain control of the kitchen and wait staff to make this a really good place.

American Oak specializes in cocktails. They are truly great, so plan on having at least one. Next, make sure you visit on Sunday, as that is the only day they prepare the slow-cooked dry-rub ribs, bbq sauce on the side. Can't tell you how wonderful these ribs are--you just have to experience them yourself. Same goes for their fabulous mac&... More
