What a pleasant, relaxing, and friendly place to eat. Great food, reasonable prices, nice atmosphere. This is not a fancy steakhouse; very casual with a John Wayne inspired decor. We are snowbirds and were just passing through and saw the good reviews. (For a bonus, there were some local Prom goers eating here too.) Recommend the prime rib; it comes... More

Tried to visit this restaurant on Tuesday but it wasn't open, not sure why as the hours listed said it should have been. The next night however it was up and running, and worth giving that second chance. Prices are in line with the cheaper side of steakhouses. I had the 12oz prime rib which was excellent, and the baked... More

While in Alamosa there were not a lot of good options, lots of fast food. This was recommended by the hotel and was really good. The service was good and server friendly. The food was great. Salad with dinner was plentiful & fresh, warm fresh bread, probably the best baked potatoes we've ever had and great steaks. Definitely recommend it.... More

Every year I go to Monte Vista to photograph the Cranes. Well that's what I tell everyone. Actually, True Grits is one of the main reasons. You won't believe what you get for the price and it's good. Not exactly "Morton's" gourmet but just great food. If you haven't tried the Baked Potatoes in southern Colorado you are in for... More

For a Wed night this little bar type restaurant was pretty busy. No wait though as it seats many and we sat in the bar area. Our server was Melissa and she was courteous, pleasant, and efficient. She had plenty to do but handled it all like a pro. The prime rib was very good and huge. Everything about their... More

We both had the country fried steak which was way too much after an excellent salad and sunflower seed bread. The food was hot and the gravy over the steak was excellent a good place to eat if you are really really hungry.

This used to be my favorite restaurant in Alamosa but this place has gone down hill. You do get a good value for your money for the quatity of food you get. Steaks are decent. Good bar.

Have eaten steaks across this country and True Grit has the best steaks I have ever eaten any where. I have eaten here several times and will make a point to dine here every time I am in Alamosa.

My husband was craving a steak, so we decided to give True Grits a try. I immediately noticed that the waitstaff seemed rushed, overwhelmed and had very little time to give to the customers. Concerning considering we were there at 4p, not even prime dinner time. Our waitress went out of her way to tell EVERY table she had that... More

We arrived early for Saturday evening dinner and despite 3 servers working we were always waiting. The server seemed overwhelmed and briefly took our drink order. Drinks were served on the fly with placing on the table and we waited for her to come back to take the dinner order. We had very little interaction throughout the dinner with the... More
