Just had lunch here during a boat trip from Rio Dulce. The place is nice and the service is fast and polite. The pescado is fresh and well cooked. Prices in the norm. Surely worth a visit.

Livingston is in Guatemala, but it is not Guatemala -- it is the isolated town on the Carib coast that is home to a Garifuna population (often called Black Caribs). The signature Garifuna dish is Tapado. A seafood stew in a coconut milk sauce. Almost...every place in town serves a Tapado. But Tiburon Gato is perhaps the best in town. We stopped by late in the morning to this open air restaurant on the town's main street to put in our order -- it is made fresh and takes about 45 minutes to make properly. When we arrived back we were treated to huge earthen ware bowls containing mangrove snapper, whole blue crabs, shelled shrimp and squid, mollusks and sweet plantains. It is messy to eat ... but wonderful. The cost was about $US7 per bowl (big enough for two). In the States the seafood alone would cost over $US25. Usually when you try something a second time it is not as good as the first. Our second Tapado, however, was even better. Service is very friendly and relaxed. Sit enjoy your Tapado and watch the town pass by.More
