We were looking for a place to eat on Christmas day. Decided to try Checking Mings. The restaurant is located in Kroger shopping center but found food to be much better than the typical food served in these type restaurants. We had the chicken with vegetables and spicy chicken. The food was fresh and tasty although the spicy chicken did... More

I first ordered from Chef Ming's 15 years ago. The food was reliable. After a several year hiatus, I tried the menu again twice this year. It was amazingly disappointing both times. The take out order (over 60 dollars) was underseasoned and cold. Most recently, I did dine in, where the disinterested server did not pay attention to my request... More

The wife suggested Chinese food for dinner and as we are visiting in Athens we asked a local for a recommendation. He said Chef Ming was his choice so there we headed. We had a tasty dinner from a pretty typical local Chinese menu. The pork lo mein was good and suited our needs well. The in house lightly pickled... More

Lunch today, seated promptly and order taken by server. It's all downhill after that, although we did get our orders... sort of. Party of four, of whom two ordered identical entrees. Soup served, no appetizers, and then the first of the two identical meals. No appetizers, so I asked the second server, who promised to see to it. The other... More

When we get a "yen" for Chinese, we head for Chef Ming. We have a variety of favorites and always bring home warmups for the next day. There are always plenty of people there and service is prompt and friendly.

Keep in mind that this is a Chinese restaurant in a Kroger shopping center. Do not expect the best Kung Pao chicken in the universe. That said, this was very good, very fresh food with a pleasant staff and a clean dinning room. I will be going back.

We were concerned when we could not find their Health Department score publicly posted at the front of the restaurant as it should be; but we decided to try Chef Ming's anyway. (I checked it online later; it was 85, barely acceptable as far as we are concerned). Insects were mentioned in the report. The service was very slow even... More

We ordered the Kung Pao Beef and Hot Spicy Chicken combo dinners. The hot and sour soup was good, the spring rolls mushy. The dinners arrived without rice, which we then asked for. It was lumpy, obviously scraped from the bottom of a pot. We had to call the waitress back and ask for spoons for the rice. She brought... More

This is the only place in town to get Singapore rice noodles and they are delicious. Very typical American Chinese decor but I can't stress enough that you must try the Singapore rice noodles.

A few years ago (2011) I gave Chef Ming's a bad review because the food was, well, bad. But times change and this is now my favorite Chinese restaurant in Athens. Their prices are good and their food is incredible. Try the hot and sour soup and kung pow chicken and you will be hooked!
