Looked up The Grove Cafe online looking for breakfast - small old time diner - family run with teens taking your order. Loved it!!! Great breakfast and cute spot that filled up fast. A great experience for the kids - they asked the waitress - "Do you have wifi?" - Nope.... LOL!! Would definately go back for a great breakfast!

Step back in time . Old school dinner. No fluff just real home cooked food. Breakfasts are big and full of all the fatty goodness that makes home food great. Forget the cookie cutter fast food chains and enjoy some real home cooked food at the Grove!!

Grove Cafe is a classic Ames stop. Don't expect fancy. This reminds me of my favorite little hometown diner. If you are there in the morning, there may be a regular customer that unlocks the door and starts the coffee. Throwback to small town Iowa. Get the pancakes, enough said.

If you eat here, you will walk out smelling like a diner... sort of greasy and food-y. That's okay. Their breakfast is no frills, and darn good. It is exactly diner food, and sometimes that is what you want. The service is always good, it's very personable, and they are always good with my kids. I love the breakfast, my... More

While my father was in the hospital we decided to eat breakfast here. Expected much more by the 4 stars and being rated 40th. The back of the booths are pleated fabric and faded, torn, and filthy. I did not lean back. Napkin holder had fingerprints in the grime on top. We ordered an omelet that came with toast and... More

It is a shaggy, loveable joint. They only accept cash or check (so keep that in mind). It's the type of diner where you walk in, seat yourself in a booth or on a stool where you get to watch the quick-order cooks make your breakfast. The staff is local and very personable. The "Famous pancake" is huuuuuuge. I would... More

We had moved our daughter back to Ames for the school year the day before. Before leaving town we wanted to go out for breakfast. A friend recommended the Grove. This was a hole in the wall on Main /street in Ames. The street has many little shops and bars in remodeled buildings so it is quite nice. The Grove... More

This diner is only open for breakfast and lunch. On the weekends, get here before 8:00 AM to get seated without a wait. We try to get to The Grove every trip we make to Ames, specifically for the pancakes. The Grove's pancakes are as big as the dinner plate they are served and very delicious. Unless you are extremely... More

Go for breakfast, have the pancake (yes-just one because it's huge) with the homemade syrup. My kids love sitting up at the counter and watching their food being made. breakfast burritos are good too - usually one on special
