Dar Essalam was featured in a Hitchcock film, I think it was called the man who knew too much,[1956] Walking through the medina, you could easily pass without realise what a treasure lying below Once down the tiled entrance, you find a maze of dining areas. The one I was in had a 2 man band playing typical Moroccan music, followed by... More

We were staying very close by to Dar Essalam and were looking for a restaurant with live music. The restaurant itself is beautiful and the music was really nice. However, the biggest negative for us was poor service. It took a long time for food to come and also for our server to appear when needed. Food itself was good,... More

Went here for a last dinner before leaving Marrakesh. Should have been a cozy experience, but somehow it wasn't. Their artistic programme is way too loud, the way the tables are placed is tributary of giving space to this artistic display and the overall atmosphere is not as intimate and local as you'd hope. There are menus to choose from,... More

Had a wonderful Moroccan feast with very reasonable prices. Of course Tagine was served. Delicious desserts. Gnawan musicians were playing and later on there was a Belly dancer as well.

Very busy, tables very close together making movement difficult. Vast quantities of food of average quality. Many plates of mixed veg and pulses followed by tagine of beef with figs and apricots. Latter good, but beef cheap cut (skirt) and very chewy. Poor dessert of sliced oranges. Wine acceptable. Belly dancer show spoilt by too crowded a room.

We arrived here for lunch as part of our day tour group. So we really had no choice but if you have a choice just don't, unfortunately. The building and rooms are beautiful but it's still not worth it. The service was attentive but with a prefixed menu the didn't do much but drink orders. The chicken tajine was so... More

We have tagines and mint tea, the usual spread for tourists in Morocco. Waiters were witty and fun. Stewed chicken with prunes was excellent. Vegetables seemed too mushy to identify.

This restaurant was recommended to us by our Riad. The restaurant was decorated in a Moroccan style and is in the basement. It is large and the staff were friendly and welcoming. During the evening they had entertainment by musicians, belly dancers and others and there were interactive with the patrons. This made for an enjoyable experience. The menu had... More

We came here for lunch; it did not disappoint. Great value and wonderful food. Lunch is cheaper than diner for the same menu, so rock up midday and have a feats. The setting is authentic Moroccan and I think they have even filmed movies here. Toilets are very clean too, a good sign of the hygiene standards all round.

Felt like a waste of a nights dinner on a short trip to Morocco. The food was extremely disappointing and lacking flavour. The portions were large however felt stale. The turnaround on food may be low due to serving tourists during prime dinner hour only. It's a shame since the decor is quite beautiful and the place would have potential.
