Prior to Covid, Thanying Restaurant in Bangkok was one of our favorite destination. It provided excellent meals in elegant atmosphere. After 3 years of hiatus, we visited the restaurant to find that the fine food served in elegant ambience had disappeared totally. Until Covid pandemic,...Thanying restaurant had been one of our favorite destinations in Bangkok. We had visited the restaurant to enjoy its Thai cuisines. The restaurant had changed in the interim, and bears no resemblance to the elegant hideaway it once was. We found instead a dumpy establishment where tables were covered not with linens, but plastic covers with lacy designs. Instead of nice menus printed on paper booklets, we found laminated menus with gaudy photos. The kind of presentation you might expect in a busy beachside eating place for tourists. The food was terrible. No trace of exquisite mixtures of flavors we found in our pre-Covid visits. The pricing has not changed, but definitely a sharp drop in the quality. Perhaps there was a change in ownership, and the new owners decided to embark on a different objective. I would not recommend this restaurant. In fact, I strongly recommend that you veer away from this place.More

Excellent Thai food. Very efficient and friendly service. We tried the red curry eith duck and the green curry with chicken. Both delicious, but if I had to choose... the red one is unbeatable! Sticky rice with mango is also very good! Mostly locals, which...is a good sign. Reasonably priced.More

Had a fantastic meal here. Formal restaurant with a great range of authentic Thai food. Lots of locals eating here too. Service was excellent. We had 5 dishes plus rice and beer for less than £30.00.

We had just arrived at our hotel round the corner from the U.K. and so tired and jet-lagged we asked for a local recommendation to eat Thai food. This was just a 10 minute walk away in a side street. Cosy place with friendly staff....Food was lovely from the starters, the delicious mango salad and the selection of curries we tried. The mango and sticky rice to close was the icing on the cake. A great little local place to kick off our Bangkok visit. Not unreasonably priced either.More

Visited past november this nice restaurant, where supposedly a memeber of the royal family is the chef! nice plates, well presented and with great taste. Cozy atmosphere, but lighting insufficient/not properly managed. tables might get a bit crowded in peak hours. Good cocktails. Not worth...trying desserts, but rice and Thai plates are excellent.More

Recommended by a friend, i was a little surprised as i reached. The “colonial house” is rather run down and spartan. Ordered the usual like tom yum soup, duck curry, pomelo salad etc. Average quality and service. It’s not expensive, <$100 for 3 pax. Nothing...royal about thisMore

I’m led to believe after my relatively Short time in Thailand that “Royal Cuisine” is essentially the same kind of Thai food you get in the UK. But, just like the UK, you get good and bad “Thai”. Set in the grounds of a colonial...building, this restaurant has stiff competition from similar offerings at places like Ban Chiang round the corner. Of all the royal restaurants, this was by far my favourite in Sathorn. Special mention to minced garlic pork starter and the curry thali which was so so good. Music and road let a young jigga go pattern up both.More

Short walk from BTS Surasak station in a traditional Thai house serving royal Thai cuisine. Thanying offered tradition royal Thai cuisine in combination with other famous Thai dishes. Great place for a special dinner. The setting in an old villa is beautiful; it feels like...dining in a Royal home or museum, full of antiques and art. The menu is not to long and although dubbed "Royal cuisine" covers all the traditional Thai classics. Prices are very reasonable given the service and the setting. We ordered the Pork satay and the pork meat is juicy and succulent. Followed by the papaya salad. The salad was my favourite as the spiciness and the sourness are just right. The spicy minced pork was a bit of disappointment as I found it too mild and blend. Service was good, without being over bearing. All in all a lovely dinner and warmly recommendedMore

We ate there during our stay in Bangkok. The food was very delicous and the waitors were very kind and professional. We had a great time there and would recommend this class if you like high-class cuisine for an affordable price.

I got to the restaurant half an hour before closing, so I knew they may not be into serving a single person late. However, they were super friendly, and I give them credit for that. I had some iced Thai coffee, Spring Rolls, and a...Pomelo Spicy salad with pork and chicken. The spring rolls were a bit too oily for me, but everything tasted wonderful. Rates were reasonable and the inside is very pleasant.More

I love to come here during the summer months for their signature Khao Chae. Be sure to booked in advance when making reservations as they may run out of Khao Chae. If you are looking for classic thai food in traditional setting, Thanying is the...place. Than ying is more of an authentic restaurant, not an upcoming hip kind of place. It's been there for ages serving classic dishes. More popular with tourist more than local Thais nowadays although Thais like to visit this place particularlt for Khao Chae.More

Thanying offered tradition royal Thai cuisine in combination with other famous Thai dishes. The service was good, the ambience was homey with a classic touch. My friend and I ordered kratongthong for appetizer, Thai soup with shrimp paste ( Kaeng liang) and spicy salad with...vermicelli. The presentation was nice. The taste was good for those who love mild taste. Anyway, I did expect it to taste mild as royal Thai cuisine is different from normal Thai food.More

I didn't mention dress code in my review, however Thanying is a somewhat high-end restaurant in Bangkok (although very reasonably priced), it is best to dress nicely to fit in the ambience, you will enjoy it ...
